NEWSFLASH - Greg Lembrich and Nancy Adams win Primary! Jerry Concedes

The attacks from what I've seen have been relatively equally distributed here and on VG. Though each side certainly thinksit leans more heavily one way or the other.

The election results show that the sentiments of the MOL attack dogs do not necessarily reflect the sentiments of the community. This is good.
Attack dogs????
Yep

I guess one needs to define what one means by "attack".

For me, taking exception to an assertion which has factual or legal deficiencies is not an "attack". I'll concede that it would be a "rejoinder", but "Rejoinder Dogs" sounds like a bad parody of a Quentin Tarantino movie.

Ctrszska............been there lovely. As a matter of fact my wife introduced ice tea to Brussels over 40 years ago. Should have hung around and marketed it. I might be able to upgrade my 6 year old Dell Computer that is starting to have a mind of its own.

I'm sure both sides believe they've represented the facts. But there are many, many subjective things about this issue as well.

On the thread started by Jerry Ryan at the same time as this thread, nohero said the following that I absolutely agree with as I do with what sbenois and others have stated here. Thanks Jerry!

"Whether in or out of office, Jerry, you have contributed so much to what makes Maplewood a wonderful place to live. In your service on the Township Committee, I always appreciated your thoughtful and informed approach to any issue. The Township is a better place because of all of your efforts."

Your insights, background, ability to see the big picture but understand the small problems as well have helped our community immensely. I hope you continue to contribute in all capacities particularly given your technical background.

Wendy Lauter

The population of Maplewood is around 24,000.00. The winners had 1500 + votes.

The most motivated came out to vote. The rest didn't care. That's the way elections go.

So, what will be different now that Mr. Ryan is out and Mr. Lembrich is in?

My term expires Dec 31, so you will not find out the answer until 2016 oh oh

I'm upset. I didn't get a cookie.

I was kind of hoping a Lembrich voter could explain it to me.

Me too.

Me too. The PO process will continue as planned and will likely only be delayed if the legal challenges threatened by the opposition come to fruition. The election of Lembrich is not sufficient to change anything about the plans for the PO, so I guess we'll be treated to an expensive and unfortunate legal battle before things can move forward.

Solomon.........not that it matters all that much but the population of Maplewood while being about 24,000

one would have to factor in the number of children. No idea there Maybe we could check the Public School rolls to get a more or less accurate count.

True, my eight year old is a registered independent and therefore was not eligible to vote

I don't think that this election was atypical in terms of turnout. I believe that it was higher than usual for a primary, no doubt due to being contested.

But our typical turnout is fairly pathetic.

Did Lembrich already defeat Scelera?

I must have missed those cookies too! ; )

What is the story on the cookies? Inquiring minds want to know ...

(I never heard anything about cookies until after the election.)

1,000 free Able Baker cookies at train station on election day, provided by Lembrich campaign.

Was there a gluten-free option?

Did one have to be a registered Democrat to get a cookie?

I would think Republicans are philosophically opposed to free cookies.

Correct, and it's not just the number of children that is relevant. The question is how many registered Democratic voters there are. That is, how many were actually eligible to vote in the Democratic Primary.

I've written and deleted this a half-dozen times today, but it really bothers me that in the thread titleGreg and Nancy are referred to with their full name while Jerry is only referred to by his first. Maybe it's my mother speaking, but I think its disrespectful.

That could well have been the intention.

Jerry is well-known; we only need to know it's Jerry. The other two are newcomers who need to be fully identified. I think it reflects reality, and I find it to be flattering of Jerry. But, is that how he spells his name?

Gerard with a G and Jerry with a J.

Actually I voted via absentee ballot. I am an independent . However as an independent I was surprised to be handed ballots for both the Republican and Democratic primary. I think now I have become a registered voter for the party in which I voted.

I was given half a cookie

Only about 9500 are registered Democrats. Still not a stellar turnout, but not as awful as the previous statistic would imply.

Just sort of germane , In Greece if you do not vote you lose your driver's license. Always struck me as strange that in the birthplace of Democracy voting should be mandatory and not left up to the individual.

Then again never try to make sense of Greek politics or Economics.
