Happy 30th, MTV -- Your early MTV memories??? archived

I was such an addict. Remember those silent "old movie" minutes at the end of each half hour instead of commercials????

Remember when the M in MTV stood for music? Now its just nickelodeon for 18-24 year olds.

Why does this make me feel soooooooooooooooooooooo old? I remember babysitting, and how happy I was when the kids went to sleep, so I could watch music video after music video.

One of my early faves. Okay, so Braveheart it ain't...

That was one of the first things I thought of when the radio said it's the 30th anniversary. They were these weird, monocolor (blue, red) snippets from who-knows-what, with some random music playing.

I later realized that we were all part of their marketing test, to show advertisers that these stupid kids would sit through ANYTHING, waiting for the next video to show up.

30 years? Sweet Jesus, I'm old.

So everyone knows the first video that MTV played. Anyone know the last?

Video Kille the Radio Star and a Pat Benatar song...dont know the last....

Happy birthday MTV!! The 80's were the best!! Boy George was my DUDE on MTV!!!

To me, this is quintessential MTV:

A good friend of mine was on Remote Control in 1989 or 1990 and that was pretty cool.

we gotta stop agreeing like this. People will talk.

So much to enjoy about MTV back in the day, but my favorite will remain one of my first real crushes - as far as young p37 was concerned, she was the M of MTV:

I never liked Martha Quinn. She spoke in a weird sort of crawling-to- slow- then- rushing to- fast drawley sort of mumble that pissed my rocker ass off in 1986.

Remember the first minute it started. we were all at Michael Feinbergs house because he lived across the street from the high school and we could go there for lunch. We spent most lunches at his house for the rest of the year after that to watch.

Now you've reminded me of summer, 1984. At the Meadowlands Arena to see Bruce Springsteen, we're in the level of seats which are in front of the suites/boxes. Martha Quinn is in the suite that we're right in front of, and a lot of guys are all over the place hitting on her.

Years before it was ever hooked up in my house...the opening moments of MTV:

Does anyone remember--Fish heads, fish heads... A video of a deli window with someone opening and closing the fish's mouth?

lol project37 I was thinking the same thing, but different:

He aged nicely.

I don't know who "he" is, but he's better looking now than he was then....

Stop Draggin My Heart Around - first video I ever saw. Still like that song.

Yup. Billy Mumy aka Will Robinson from Lost in Space is responsible for it. He once described the video an experiment fueled by hallucinogens and credit cards.
