Gymnastics: Best place for three-year-old girl?

I know about Sunburst Gymnastics in Union and gymnastics at South Mountain Y (we are in Maplewood). Does anyone have additional suggestions for a first gymnastics class for an active three-year-old girl? I am NOT interested in a parent/child class. Thanks!

A bit of a trek, but we like Diamond Gym on Route 10 in East Hanover.

+1 for diamond.
it's a very fun and warm place - my kids all started at 3 and are still going 6 years later

The Connection in Summit

Thanks for the suggestions. I have lots of kids, so we probably won't make it as far as Route 10, but I know Diamond Gymnastics is great. Do you have to join the Connection to do classes there?

If you're looking for specifically Maplewood, you won't find much.

Yes, you do have to join the Connection. The fee's not too bad if you're planning to take multiple classes in a year

The earliest they can start is 3 usually? Just starting to think about enrolling my daughter in gymnastics, so I'm curious.

Little Gym in Summit (or Livingston) is great And they do an awesome birthday party too!

3 is usually the age for them to attend without a parent. Before that, all classes are usually parent/child.

Sunburst is good too. The teachers there are strict though - if you are wanting them to get a more disciplined training in gymnastics, they do a good job. They don't tolerate alot of goofing around. Some parents like this, some do not. Parents are not allowed on the gym floor. It is the teachers and the students only unless you are in the Mommy & Me / Daddy & Me class.

We are moving our daughter to Diamond just b/c we moved closer to this facility and the drive to Sunburst was now going to take twice as long.

My kid went to Sunburst as-well, lots of my students go there too, gymnastics complements their martial arts.

Our daughter had started at Diamond then moved to Sunburst then moved to the Y. While Diamond is a schlep from Maplewood, they were so great with the younger kids that it was well worth it. They also have a foam pit with a rope over it that kids swing on. Finally, on the last day of classes, they put up a blow up slide and bouncy house. Our daughter loved it!

Hey All,

Reviving this thread for more info... Can anyone compare/contrast Little Gym of Summit vs. South Mountain Y vs. Diamond vs. Sunburst? Aside from commuting distances, what are the major pros & cons of one vs. the other? Thanks!

My daughter went from Diamond to Sunburst to South Mountain Y. Diamond was awesome for a little kid as the instructors were very nurturing and they threw in fun things plus instruction. When she got a bit older and classes were then at evening times, we switched to Sunburst. It is closer and it does help advance their skills as they are a little stricter and had good facilities. She never complained about the instructors but I wouldn't say it was a warm place. Eventually, she didn't like the strictness so we moved to the Y which was much more laid back but did not have nearly as good equipment as it is just in the regular gym.
