Grammy-nominated artist, Stray Cats founder, and Bass Player Hall of Famer Lee Rocker brings his brilliant artistry to SOPAC! Rocker has spent his career preserving and evolving the legacy of Rockabilly music – singing, playing, spinning, and jamming on his bass as a founding member of the Grammy-nominated outfit the Stray Cats.
Among the early music-video pioneers of MTV, The Stray Cats sold over 10 million albums, garnering 23 gold- and platinum-certified records. The band’s worldwide mega hits “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut,” and “Sexy and Seventeen” are an enduring part of the Rock & Roll zeitgeist. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has included “Rock this Town” as one of the 500 most important songs in Rock history.
From appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone and as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live to headlining the world’s biggest festivals and touring with the Rolling Stones, Lee Rocker continues to enjoy a prolific career. In addition to his record-breaking output with the Stray Cats, he has recorded and performed with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, John Fogerty, and Carl Perkins.
In addition to countless other accolades, in 1982 both Rocker and his father Stanley Drucker (clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein) received Grammy nominations, an achievement occurring only twice in the history of the Grammy Awards. In 2012, Rocker appeared on Broadway in the hit musical Million Dollar Quartet. He has received numerous honors for his contributions to music and the arts, including an induction into the Bass Player Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Rocker is a recipient of the Visionary Artist Award from his home city of Laguna Beach, California.
