FOUND: small (about 9lb) curly haired dark gray dog, Upper Wyoming/Harding Drive area of SO

Melanie did reach out to me this morning, but the dog went to the foster last night. The foster was concerned and brought the dog to the Vet this morning for a complete check up. So that's where Gina can pick him up. I messaged her this information.

DAMNED IF YOU DO, DAMNED IF YOU DON'T.

I am really upset. The woman who offered to foster the dog brought the dog to the vet, because she was bringing him into her home, with her children. The vet bill is several hundred dollars. The woman just messaged me and said Gina does not want to pay the balance. The dog has an ear infection and other issues.

I am sick about this. I got so much criticism for saying animal control was going to take the dog, found a willing foster for a dog, and now the owner doesn't want to pay the vet bill.

Gina, please do the right thing by your pet. I know he is old, but this is unfair!

No good deed goes unpunished.

@shh I cannot for the life of me figure out how to PM you. I'm wondering: If Gina (the owner?) doesn't want to pay the vet bill, would she consider forfeiting the (obviously neglected) dog to the vet? How much more $ is owed to the vet? Please respond in a PM if you'd rather not post the details for all to see. And thank you for taking in this poor dog.

I don't have the dog, the foster, who works in the Newark court, lives in SO plainfield. She brought the dog to the vet. The bill is a few hundred and she messaged me that Gina wants the dog but is not willing to pay part of the bill.

She is actually leaving work early to deal with this. I am so upset. I have spent two days trying to find the owner, and now dealing with the owner who wants her dog but doesn't want to pay?!

The foster told me Gina only wants to pay the minimum, I don't know what that is, but the dog has health issues. He is older, but his ear infection and parasites should be treated

Yes, no good deed goes unpunished!!!

The foster is driving now so I don't want to message her.

This was just posted in another thread -- I wonder if the part in bold pertains to this situation.

4:22-17. Cruelty; disorderly persons offense

a. It shall be unlawful to:

(1) Overdrive, overload, drive when overloaded, overwork, abuse, or needlessly kill a living animal or creature;

(2) Cause or procure, by any direct or indirect means, including but not limited to through the use of another living animal or creature, any of the acts described in paragraph (1) of this subsection to be done;

(3) Inflict unnecessary cruelty upon a living animal or creature, by any direct or indirect means, including but not limited to through the use of another living animal or creature; or leave the living animal or creature unattended in a vehicle under inhumane conditions adverse to the health or welfare of the living animal or creature ; or

(4) Fail, as the owner or as a person otherwise charged with the care of a living animal or creature, to provide the living animal or creature with necessary care.

Above excerpted from

I don't even know what to do with that? I just feel horrible for the foster who was ready to make a home for this elderly dog, knowing it might be temporary, but now to lose money too?!

Got it and responded

Re: the legal stuff, I wonder if the vet would consider the dog's owner to have "failed to provide necessary care." In which case maybe the owner would prefer to forfeit the dog rather than face possible prosecution.

I'd be glad to conribute a few bucks for the vet but ONLY if the owner doesn't get the dog back. She is incapable of caring for it properly.

I just found out that Gina called the police on the vet who wouldn't release the dog to her

The poor woman who was fostering got a flat on her way to the vet and Gina had to wait!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She sounds like a real piece of work. She doesn't deserve a dog.

Ditto.

Can the vet report her to the police for not properly taking care of the dog? It is her dog right? So the vet should hold her accountable for the charges incurred by her dog. Period. The charges are based on issues with the dog. What a piece of work!

Calling the cops on the vet might be the best thing in this situation -- if the vet explains to the cops that the animal had been effectively abandoned and neglected. Gina might change her tune. That's terrible about the foster's flat tire! Poor woman is trying to do EVERYTHING right.....c'mon, karma, pitch in here!

Now the vet office is expecting the foster to pay $30 a month wellness fees. I told her she can get out of the contract but she feels terrible because of what they had To go thru.

I think she took the dog before the foster even got there. This woman is a piece of work. She posted here under her full name. Sent me her phone number. I know her address! This is a local SOneighbor!!!

also.....if the dog had no collar and no chip, how can she even prove it's "her" dog?

wait. WHAT. the dog is back with the neglectful owner? This is DISGUSTING.

She called the police on the vet! She didn't want to wait for the foster who not only left work early but got a flat tire. I am so sick about all of this. Who does this?!

Here are the details as I've been told (NOTE: these are not my words, this is from the foster.

Posted on Soma Lounge.

Yes she has her dog. The cops made them give it up and I am sure they had enough of her crazy ass.

Yes the cops were there.

She paid $120 but if I didn't take out the plan she would have had to pay $800

$800?? What was really wrong with the dog and what treatment did the Vet do? That seems a bit outrageous as well. I mean my dog has been to the Vet many times, even to have his teeth cleaned which requires he be put down under anesthesia, and it was nowhere as much as that.

I deleted her contact info. Can u?

The dog had other issues. I don't have the report

Done.

The foster posted more details on swap lounge but the bottom line is the dog is sick, andthey had some surgery scheduled.

The dog has Lyme disease too.
