Yogurt question

@deiscane Since I don't know the OP's aunt, I gave the info I did so they could evaluate if it met her criteria. I wasn't saying it would be a good fit, just putting it out there for them to check it out. I realize there are many variations on what is kosher to different people.

From its website:

Why does Yoplait use gelatin?
Gelatin gives consistency and texture to yogurt and Yoplait uses kosher gelatin that’s beef-derived. Yoplait yogurt carries KD (Kosher Dairy) Certification, certified by Rabbi Barnett Hasden. New Yoplait Greek and Yoplait Greek 100 are great options for those looking for a gelatin-free Yoplait option.

BTW, in my opinion, gelatin is almost completely unnecessary in yogurt, having nothing to do with kashrus.

Truly fascinating: processed, commercial animal gelatine is barely allowable in Australia (anything you purchase as kosher has agar or pectin to make it jell). If we saw dairy with bovine anything, automatically treif, just the word association is enough.

Isn't that interesting? KA doesn't accept it.

http://www.ka.org.au/index.php/component/option,com_kosherdb/Itemid,61/catid,106/ I searched specifically for Yoplait, and got nothing.

And then, on the Gelatine page, we have this note:

The kosher authorities here were badly shook this year, following a federal government enquiry. Everything needed reorganising and the Victorian body split from the New South Wales one (they'd only nationalised about 15years ago). So the new bodies are super-scrupulous

As I said earlier, it's not universally accepted in the US either.

Bluepool,

I like the idea of smoothies bc these can be made to order. An interesting twist on this would be to look for body building sites...they want foods that can help GAIN weight and bulk! When loking for smoothies recipes I came across at least one site that had this focus.

Also, you can add milk to ice cream and blend to make a milk shake; add powdered malt to make it a malted milk; add a raw egg for added flavor and nutrition(loved those!). I,d give a simple vanilla ice cream and whole milk or cream blended till smooth and less thick. If she can manage that a little creativity in choosing flavors and ingredients may give her a range of welcome foods.

I also imagine that a liquid diet plan has plenty of nutrition though those are geared to weight loss...maybe you could some weight adding ingredients. A nutritionist or her doc should have some ideas. I recall my endocrinologist saying that people who should gain weight are just in their way as the rest of us are when we fight the battle of the bulge

Follow-up: I just searched for "smoothie recipes for weight gain" and found a bunch sites. Fitness blender.com seems to have a bunch of simple recipes you could try with easy to find ingredients
