Who is Watching the Debate?

That's what makes Bernie so trustworthy - sparse hairs blowing in the wind - now that's honesty!

I'm lookin' at you too, Ted and Rand and Donald. The measure of a man's honesty surely must be his approach to male pattern baldness. cool cheese

And his ability to embrace dandruff.

And not just honesty.  blank stare

Dr. Carson explains Middle East policy.

QUESTION: Dr. Carson, you were against putting troops on the ground in Iraq and against a large military force in Afghanistan. Do you support the president's decision to now put 50 special ops forces in Syria and leave 10,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan?

CARSON: Well, putting the special ops people in there is better than not having them there, because they -- that's why they're called special ops, they're actually able to guide some of the other things that we're doing there.

And what we have to recognize is that Putin is trying to really spread his influence throughout the Middle East. This is going to be his base. And we have to oppose him there in an effective way.

We also must recognize that it's a very complex place. You know, the Chinese are there, as well as the Russians, and you have all kinds of factions there.

What we've been doing so far is very ineffective, but we can't give up ground right there. But we have to look at this on a much more global scale. We're talking about global jihadists. And their desire is to destroy us and to destroy our way of life. So we have to be saying, how do we make them look like losers? Because that's the way that they're able to gather a lot of influence.

And I think in order to make them look like losers, we have to destroy their caliphate. And you look for the easiest place to do that? It would be in Iraq. And if -- outside of Anbar in Iraq, there's a big energy field. Take that from them. Take all of that land from them. We could do that, I believe, fairly easily, I've learned from talking to several generals, and then you move on from there.

But you have to continue to face them, because our goal is not to contain them, but to destroy them before they destroy us.

Sounds like a jumbled answer Miss South Carolina would give at a beauty pageant.  The guy should have stayed a neurosurgeon or gone happily into retirement.  He seems really dumb.

omg!

After the debate, Carson was asked about inconsistencies in his personal narrative as set forth in his autobiography.  Carson said he won't answer what he deems "silly questions" and from now on will tell the questioner to "go jump in a lake."   When it was pointed out that he was the one who told these stories about his past and brought them to the public's attention, he said:

“Because before it was an autobiography, and it’s not an autobiography now because it’s already been written.”

Huh?!  This guy is so not ready for prime time.

Sadly, that isn't what gets people elected.

Yup, Kasich makes sense and his answers are well thought out. As I watched some of the debate yesterday, Kasich DOES remind me of Huntsman. Where's Huntman now? He wasn't even vetted for VP. This poor guy will become invisible down the road, just like Huntsman.

Huntsman is head of the Atlantic Council.

This cracks me up:

BAKER: In seven years under President Obama, the U.S. has added an average of 107,000 jobs a month. Under President Clinton, the economy added about 240,000 jobs a month. Under George W. Bush, it was only 13,000 a month. If you win the nomination, you'll probably be facing a Democrat named Clinton. How are you going to respond to the claim that Democratic presidents are better at creating jobs than Republicans?

FIORINA: [Looks like a deer in headlights.] Well, first of all, I must say as I think about that question, I think about a woman I met the other day. [blah blah blah, playing for time, hoping everyone will forget the question.] Yes, problems have gotten much worse under Democrats.

Some sort of mind trick, I suspect. I read the sentence and was instantly disoriented.

Carson has some influential friends. This painting is actually in his house.

He seems to adhere to the George Costanza principle:  "It's not a lie if you believe it."

Fiorina has no business running for president.  Now if Mattel Toys needed a model for bobble head dolls, she'd be in there.

This is a major point that the GOP candidates have been successful at ignoring, deflecting or misrepresenting. For the party of "business" this is a huge failing. I don't know why the DEMS aren't screaming this from the rooftops!

That and the domestic energy boom. Basically, the Republicans are arguing, "We've had a great energy boom over the last 10 years. If it weren't for Obama, we'd have a great energy boom!"

Did anyone else notice that Ted Cruz followed in the footsteps of his fellow Texas politician Rick Perry by starting to list governmental agencies that he would close and then forgetting them.  Kudos to Cruz however, instead of stammering and saying "oops" like Perry did, Cruz just plowed ahead and mentioned the commerce department twice.

“Either America will destroy ignorance or ignorance will destroy the United States.”

I don't think we're headed in the direction WEB DuBois hoped.
