WHITHER THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

seeking asylum is not illegal and illegally crossing is a misdemeanor...

1. I notice you did not elude to the fact that Obama could have fixed the law. He kept the illegal immigrants in cages but you seem to have selective amnesia.
2. I notice that you don't use the word illegal when discussing this situation on the border.
3.Typical.

I realize that it is common practice to blame the last guy.  Why, if you watch Fox News these days, you would most likely conclude that HRC is President and that Obama conspired to get her elected, such is their desire to keep the focus off of Trump.

The reality is that Trump has explicitly modified policy to the effect that he is using children as hostages to get his wall built.  A wall which, he assured us, Mexico would pay for.  You and he cannot unload the inhumanity of that decision onto anybody else.

Instead of saying "explicitly modified policy" why don't you say what he really is doing.....enforcing the law...laws that he did not create but as president his job is to enforce....laws that our previous presidents had no balls to enforce....mic drop....good night

Did you see Jeff Sessions proudly announce that what he is doing cannot be compared to what the Nazis are doing because there is an important difference: Nazis did it to keep the Jews from leaving the country, and he is doing it to keep immigrants out of the country. Sounds like something SNL would make up.

You guys follow the liberal playbook to a T...ignore facts and when your obviously wrong you move to other fake topics..... brilliant buddy boys

I'm afraid Scully already had the "mike drop" before your post.

Its a felony if it's their 2nd time genius....stick to your I'm with her support group.

And how many parents being separated from their children are arriving for the first time?  How many haven't been charged with a felony?

You don't actually know, do you?

And if you are a parent and you know you could be separated from your children and you still go there.....

GOP last week: we have to be tough on illegal immigrants, democrats are just whiners with this separation-of-children stuff

GOP this week: this is immoral, we have to introduce legislation to stop separation of children immediately

This shows two things:

1) How unprincipled these GOP folks are,

2) If public opinion turns, GOP folks will throw Trump under the bus faster than he can eat a cheeseburger (Ok, maybe not that fast, but certainly faster than he can eat two cheeseburgers, a large order of fries, and a double scoop of ice cream)

You are desperate and you will take whatever chance you can to save your life.

What the frig do you think this country is for? Why do you think immigrants have been coming here since the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock?

Pretty crazy to leave a civilized country in Europe to go to an unknown wilderness.

Let me go further. These immigrants are coming from Central America. They appear to me mostly of mixed race. One of those races are have been here for thousands of years. They were here before the present borders were drawn by as a result of violence including genocide. They have more right to live wherever they want in this hemisphere than people from Germany or Ireland, etc.

Why would you think they knew?

Most Americans, didn't know until about a week ago when this became headline news. We who we have all the advantages of numerous internet new sources. Whereas, the asylum seekers are on a long difficult and dangerous trek without the luxury of sitting at home nightly gloaming the latest news.

What they knew is they could enter America seeking asylum. Which they were allowed by U.S. law. Little did they know they would be entering Trump's spiders nest, trapped with their children taken away on the assumption their entry is illegal.

The U.S. law on asylum:

8 USC 1158 a 1

Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien’s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.

Well, if you are man enough to take a child from his or her mother whose only crime is desperation, good for you.  I guess you could say you are just following orders.  I wonder how well that rationalization would hold up at Confession.

And it is actually worse than that. Trump is a terrorist holding toddlers hostage until he gets funding for the border wall Mexico was supposed to pay for.

The idea of Trump who has spend most of his life skirting the law if not violating it now being champion of law enforcement would be ludicrous if it weren't tragic.

"Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three 'tender age' shelters in South Texas, The Associated Press has learned."

I watched Rachel Maddow try to read the announcement and she couldn't choke the words out. Stephanie Ruhle was crying during the next show. Hopefully someone sends Fox News some information on maternal deprivation studies to share with their viewers.

Recall that Trump pardoned Arpaio, who was convicted of criminal contempt for continuing to illegally detain people he suspected of being undocumented immigrants.

When it comes to immigration, Trump's about as far from respect for the law as you can get.

I enjoy Steve Schmidt's commentary whenever he is a guest on shows such as Nicole Wallace's Deadline White House. He pops up regularly on MSNBC and his pithy anti Trump comments are often quote worthy.

His last campaign for John McCain is well documented in the film Game Change, about the disaster that was Sarah Palin.

McCain's VP pick of Sarah Palin may have paved the way for Trump. And I think McCain realizes that now.

The CFPB has not filed a single enforcement action under Trump's leadership.

So spare us the ******** about their sacred duty to enforce the law.

Somehow, I'm able to get past their McCain/Palin nonsense and actually admire the articulate and outraged Schmidt and his pal Nicole Wallace as they rail against the administration daily. The most moral thing an R can do is quit the party.

Here's a story about Scott Pruitt not following laws about recording official communications:

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/where-are-scott-pruitts-emails

But I'm sure in his text messages he's totally scrupulous about the laws governing his agency's mission...

Oh, the guy who spent money on tactical pants and Polos? Amazing what the GOP will tolerate in the name of killing the planet.

Well ramsraymond42 says that they're just following the law. "Laws that he did not create but as president his job is to enforce." Mic drop. Good night.

What a friggin' joke Republicans are these days. Except for the part about a joke being funny.

Screw George Will. He spent 4 decades pushing the country in this direction.  His spot in hell might be a little less hot than Hannity’s. But it will still be in hell.

Yeah, I also have a problem with all the GOP crocodile tears about DJT. He is just building on all the bigotry and anger that they have been sowing for the last decade(s).

True but I keep hoping that some of their followers will have the courage to shift their positions if not leave the party and throw Dem candidates some of their votes.  Desperation is the mother of optimism.
