Where to get outfit/dress for company party?

Ok all you fashionistas...I need something to wear for company holiday party at nice restaurant......not too glitzy , but not too sedate......I am 5'3" so want in petite size range...I am a petite size 12. Please tell me where to look....I hate shopping so want to narrow down the store selection...and I don't want to break the bank either.

Chico's... and if you want I have a coupon you can have $25 off $50.  Check out their website.  There is a Chico's in the Short Hills Mall.  Bottom Level by Nordstrom  grin

rent the runway!  They have all different categories of dresses (work, parties, weddings, etc)

www.Renttherunway.com  Really good deals!

Nordstroms; great selection and you can use a personal shopper free of charge.

Call in advance to schedule; tell them what you're interested in and your fitting room will be all set up when you arrive. Bottled water included.

Tks.....but Chico s and Rent the runway do not offer petite sizes.....I may check Nordstrom ....hopefully they may have something that is affordable.

A store like Loft or Banana (or JCrew) will have festive looks. To keep it affordable you might want to look into  separates and add something new to your wardrobe you can utilize more than once over the holidays. Like perhaps you have a flattering pair of pants or skirt that would look good with a velvet blazer or lace top, or you can wear a  pair of new tuxedo pants with a simple blouse, maybe add festive jewelry (and shoes).

Here's a thought for you .. Nordstrom has a store called Nordstrom Rack.  I have shopped it on-line occasionally.  But they do have a few stores in NJ one being in the Rockaway Mall.  All top name brands with amazing low prices.  Just something to ponder.  Check them out at Nordstromrack.com.

Ok...will do!

Sign up for emails if you like them.  Nordstrom Rack sends me emails when they have a sale going on.  I remember I bought shoes from them for 1/2 the price of the regular stores.  AND if you decide to go to the Rockaway Mall please report back LOL  The Rockaway mall is gorgeous and since there are less people up west the mall is much less crowded than in this area.

I'm super short and shop almost exclusively in petites.  For slightly dressier than work dresses I'd check out Ann Taylor, Talbots, Nordstrom and Macy's.  In terms of in store shopping Macy's probably has the largest petite selection, I tend to like the Ralph Lauren dresses on my curvy petite body.  Make sure you go to the dress section, not the petite section.  Nordstrom has a lot online but only a handful of petite dresses in store, so despite their great service they aren't much help.  Free shipping and returns at Nordstrom though!  Ann Taylor and Talbots can be boring but are usually pretty classic.  Talbots can be a bit frumpy.  For unusual styles (including dressy) I like Anthropologie, but again all petites are online.  I've found JCrew just doesn't fit me well enough to order much, the petites are still too long everywhere (sleeves and hems) just much skinnier which doesn't work for me.  Love their styles though.

Due to the difficulty of finding petites in store I do sometimes just try on the regular size to get an idea of fit and if I like it and can order in petite I will.  At your height you will have much better luck with regular sizes, I'm under 5' so regular almost never works for me.

Good luck!

Century 21! And with the money you save, you can go to the tailor and have it hemmed / shoulders taken up. (I love Theresa--973-761-4462--read about her here on MOL!)

I have always had good luck at Lord and Taylor (Livingston Mall).

there is now a Nordstrom rack on rt. 10 just after the Livingston circle.  It's in the mall with tj max and dsw shoes.  Lord and Taylor is a good suggestion and the Westfield store has a very large dress selection.

call or email a Nordstrom stylist, let her know what you like, and save yourself hours and hours of aggravation. The service is free (dressing room ready and full of choices) and you can set a budget.  They will even shop for shoes and accessories. I was in and out for an event in under an hour.

I went into Bloomingdales in the Short Hills Mall the night before an out-of-town bar mitzvah. There was an amazing woman there (and a guy) who totally hooked me up. I ended up buying an Eileen Fisher petite dress, on some kind of sale, but they showed me other, cheaper options as well. I am totally clueless about these things and I was so relieved to find someone who quickly got a sense of my style (or lack thereof), picked some things out, and got me out of there posthaste.

I always find nice dresses to buy for cheaper than a single rental from that rent the runway place. Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein both have a really nice selection of dresses ranging from casual to gown. Prices often $100-150 before any sales or coupons. I think Macy's and Lord and Taylor have really nice choices and decent sized petite a departments. I just bought 2 short cocktail dresses and a gown plus a little sparkly shrug from Macy's for a total of around $200 for an upcoming cruise. Both Menlo and Short Hills had a pretty good selection

FYI - Century 21 in the city is WAY better than the Morristown location.

Loving all this advice!!! I plan to start looking this weekend.....

Macy's in Short Hills has a pretty good petite dress selection and if you have coupons, you could do quite well.  If you see something that would work for you that's not in the right color, etc., Macy's will have it sent to you from another store.

Good luck!

You'd be surprised by how much Crew has to offer when it comes to classy evening / business attire fare. You can get cool separates or a long skirt with pockets (my fav!) And you can pick up some heels there too. Love me some Crew.

Me too! And customer service in store is always great. I order most online and return to the store. (Sadly the store doesn't always have everything I want.)

Me too! I really try not to mall shop. I like to have my beverage of choice, my keyboard and my credit card handy and something in mind that I'm looking for. The UPS man knows me well oh oh
