What's up with the construction on the S-Curves

SteveIvan--when you say his interest goes beyond awarding of contracts, do you mean this is a good thing?

Unfortunately, I think good politicians need to be opportunistic in areas that people can see and use concretely. Even for me, it helps if I can see something that seems mostly positive to recognize. I love the reservoir area, and only wish the playground and zipline had been around when my kid could have used them. My husband and daughter went to the old Turtleback Zoo frequently, even when it wasn't so great.

The reason Essex' GO bond ratings maintain investment grade status is due to the unfettered ability of Essex to raise everyone's taxes to support the repayment of the bond issuance. In that Essex maintains affulent communities the general taxing power will always attract a high rating. it has nothing to do with the spectacular financial acumen of the guys running the County.

Essex Co. has the largest court costs in the state. The county tried to get the state to pay court costs, but the suburban counties resisted. The budget increases have been held to under the statutory cap of 2%. I know that it's a common complaint that our county taxes are high, but Monmouth Co. taxes are the same percentage of total taxes as are ours in South Orange. Essex Co. taxes are 15% of the total tax bill, and Monmouth Co. is the same.

Imho, althought they're somewhat straightened out the S curves they've neutralized that by creating a maze of tireshredding pavement cracks and bumps.

You do know they're not done yet, right? That you are driving through a construction zone?

You can understand the confusion however as the road surface is very similar to a lot of our roads that are not under construction.

Good point.

they're not done with the road surface? Then why not have resurfaced the roads any one of the number of times they closed them to resurface them.

Because they are still driving large tracked construction vehicles on them that are tearing them up. They haven't been closing them to resurface them -- the most recent closures were to erected the lower footbridge over the roadway.
