What's the best sandwich?

Yes, fresh dill is a great sandwich ingredient. Just putting it on a plain chicken sandwich makes it great.

Sorry, just can't handle mayo, or no more than a bit, and restaurants will plop in so much it smooshes out when you bite down.  Yuk.

This is my second choice as favorite.

Except for the "no mayo" of course. Blasphemy!

mjc said: BLT, plenty of really good, crisp bacon, truly ripe tomato, good white or wheat bread, no mayo.

Second choice is a tie between homemade grilled cheese (just what it sounds like) or 1 egg scrambled, American or cheddar, and black pepper on a sesame bagel.

And in honor of his upcoming b'day, I'll post BIL's favorite:  braunschweiger and onion on sourdough.  He even got his local cafe to stock it for him.

OK, how about this easy one:  tuna, mixed with a generous amount of mayo, and generously seasoned with dill weed, spread on a kaiser roll.

I need some crunch in my tuna salad. Celery, and/or walnuts and/or red onion. Also need lots of salt and pepper. I put iceberg on the sandwich and like it on toast. Any kind of toast. Adds even more crunch.

Best in USA: Langer's # 19

Best Locally: Ham-Turkey-Swiss Joe @ THD

Best (supposedly "still available" @ Fairchild's/Roseland,  but not IMHO...) EVER: Grilled Redwood @ Pal's

BTW: Forbes seems to like the THD Joe, notwithstanding the writer's inability to get the place's name right...

When I'm in a rush - peanut butter on raisin bread.

Leftover filet mignon with horseradish/sour cream spread on a croissant.

After Thanksgiving - leftover turkey and stuffing/dressing with a little gravy on good sourdough bread.

I'd better go make dinner now before I get too distracted.

sigh. All this deliciousness I can’t eat any more.  tongue laugh

Fried chicken cutlet, bacon, fresh mozzarella, with either roasted peppers or thousand island dressing but not both, on a sub roll.

Side note: back to the OP's ham and swiss.  Probably the best sandwich I ever ate one night.  I was out plowing for many hours and my partner and I got hungry.  It was the middle of the night in the early 90s and nothing was open so I called my wife and asked if she could make a couple of sandwiches.  She made ham, swiss, mayo and tomatoes on white Wonder bread.  Don't know if it was because we were so hungry or what, but we both looked at each other when we were done eating and said at the same time "that was the best sandwich we ever had."  We talked about that sandwich for years, but could never duplicate the taste. Now when I eat that combo I find myself disappointed in it.

Still remember that sandwich 25 years later.

I don't like Thanksgiving leftovers - I gave them up - cold turkey.  oh oh

I agree on the crunch in tuna, but for me it's banana peppers.

My tuna salad is loaded with crunchables - carrots, celery, shredded iceberg lettuce, any kind of sweet pepper and the occasional pickle. Black olives and tomato too, but not for crunch. Sometimes olive oil and vinegar on top of the mayo.

I like chicken salad with bacon quite a bit.

The eggplant parm is pretty solid, but not an easy make-at-home deal.

that was certainly an outstanding sandwich.

What happened to Scott anyway? The last I knew he was on the corner of Valley and Millburn(?) and I remember going there once and he was there no more.

Sloppy Joes from Scott's. Too bad they are no more.  LOL

He apparently had horrendous landlord issues with lack of building upkeep - bad leaks, etc. that made him close down more than once for repairs.  He briefly reopened in the ground floor of the Profeta building at the corner of Millburn Ave and Valley St, but couldn't make a go of it there.  (I don't think he was allowed a sign or other visible advertising and word of mouth didn't do it.)  That was 2-3 years ago.

Original Town Hall Deli Fried Fish on Friday's

Sounds like the Godfadda at Millburn deli which is awesome.

The ham sandwich (with a beer) that the kids leave out for Santa on Christmas Eve.  Because the kids know that the Santa that visits our house prefers that combo over milk and cookies  -- as I was taught the same about the Santa that visited my house when I was I kid, the same as my father was told about the Santa that visited his house when he was a kid....

Good thing that not every household does that... that would be some serious drunk flying.

@Jamie,  That is where I had it first now that you mention it.  Couldn't remember where I came up with it or if that is the way they make it, but I am sure that is where I got the idea from.  Haven't been there in years.

Thanks

I forgot to mention vinegar.  Red wine vinegar needs to go on the bread before the mayo is applied.  I'm having a late lunch sandwich in honor of this thread.

I always get this sub and thought I was the only one!  I also add tomato and oregano to it.  Yum!

Leftover flank steak.  Thinly sliced.  Summer tomatoes.  Red onion. Maybe thinly sliced hot peppers.  Ketchup.  Salt and pepper.  Toasted bread of any sort.

Sounds awesome. But there's rarely any leftover flank steak.

I like oregano on it, but not tomato for some reason.  I like tomato, just not on this sandwich.  I also thought I was the only one who liked this!
