What Other Towns Have Done With Their Closed Post Offices

It would be amazing, but Santa Barbara is about 20 times the size of Maplewood. I would seriously wonder about the ability to sustain that kind of market in town, both from a vendor and customer standpoint.

Not to mention that the average temperatures by month in Santa Barbara look like this:

and in Maplewood, it looks like this by month:

You know I thought I have been happy here for the 37 years I have called Maplewood my home.

That chart convinces me I have not been happy.

I would be (and am) much happier in chart 2 than chart 1.

Let's see what a town called Brooklyn did:

What? No hipster post-post office ironic telegraph and dodo bird skeleton emporium?!

tjohn............I can speak to exactly what happend but someone in authority was notified. I think it was Inda that published it but I can not swear to it. Anyway this authoritative person or body was notified. The reply was "it will be taken care of" and of course it has not been to date.

Right, about a month ago. Why not 2 years ago?

Here's how Denver repurposed their post office:

Max,

That picture from Denver makes me physically ill. Can you see the strength of those I-beams, the quality of the rebar, the amount of strong concrete? Why, I think I see a relatively new HVAC system on the roof.

Brooklyn also let the Dodgers get away.

When you consider that probably dozens of Post Offices are de commisioned every year the fact that a number are re purposed is a credit.

Just like in life you have to have a strong foundation..............Ours does.

A meteorologist once asked me if I was comfortable, and I said, "Yes, I make a nice living."

I've been extremely happy in NJ for my entire life. But that's probably because I'm smart enough not to dine al fresco in Maplewood in January.

Have we reached the point in the fight where nobody can remember what the fight was originally about? Bleak House, Maplewood edition.

No surprise there.Thanks VK!

What April 8th vote is being objected to? The designation of JMF or the PILOT? I understand the portion about the May vote, but April?

The MVA meeting where Fred raised his objection to a vote and they voted anyway, approving to send to the PB with the four conditions attached.

That was May. I was there. But they also mention an April vote. What happened in April?

Sorry, they all get jumbled when tossed against the wall... you're correct. I think April 8 was the hardship argument.

Ah. April hardship. May site plan submission sequence. And the third claim is that there was no written reason given for the approval.

Keep The Village Tied Up in Litigation

And now...the ploy all along: the waiting game for as long as feasibly possible.

Can we at least level the existing building and plant grass while we wait for the arguing to stop?

There's a detailed Village Green article, with the complaint that was filed.

http://villagegreennj.com/towns/government/village-keepers-sues-town-post-house-development/

The complaint barely acknowledges that there is a specific ordinance approving the Redevelopment Plan, allowing the existing building to be replaced. That's kind of important if their argument is that a DIFFERENT ordinance requires the "hardship" determination.

The decision to replace the building was made with the adoption of the redevelopment via a specific ordinance. The Village Alliance wasn't going to pass judgment on that, or overrule what the governing body decided. It was tasked with reviewing what the replacement building would be. And now, the Village Alliance is being sued because they followed the applicable Township ordinance.

Filing the lawsuit against the Village Alliance under these circumstances is inappropriate (to use a mild word; stronger language would easily apply).

It's basically a slap in the face of the MVA, the PB and the TC. A huge one, in fact. How embarrassing for all involved. And how costly for all of us. Lovely that I now have to pay for this crap.

If this is how Greg plans on wasting out tax money (defending baseless legal complaints) then I will be voting Republican in Novembet.

In fairness to Greg, is he involved in the lawsuit in any way?

Not clear to me if he is the plaintiff or the defendant grin

You left "the taxpayers" out of your list, but you've basically got it.
