What is his Worst Lie?

sadly, yes, it’s reported a lot in the Australian Jewish News and various synagogue newsletters. Community security patrols have increased in the past 15 years, alarmingly over the last 6 or so, in line with growing ‘patriotism’ movement which actually isn’t about real Aussie values but is more about imported white pride/ultra-conservative/ultra-restrictive 1930s Christian values.

Recently John Safran did a really good documentary on the movement and some of the people caught within it - worth searching for. I can’t remember if it’s a one-off or a short series.

Media here try not to report too many details of incidents for most minority communities caught in these horrible situations, because there’s a belief that a lot of the perpetrators are after the ‘glory’ of being in the news. So yesterday’s reports have truly alarmed my complacent friends.

Trump - I never settle lawsuits.

Three we know of that he settled.

Trump university where he defrauded students. 25 million.

Trump SOHO Towers where he defrauded buyers. 2.8 million.

Trump Tower project where he hired and underpaid undocumented Polish construction workers. 1.375 million.

Dotty, I have this morbid hope that he continues with his present diet and weight.

the problem we have is that as bad as Trump is, the GOP Congress is even more horrific, and they'll still be around.  The tax bill sailing through now is a mugging of the middle class and the poor, and Pence would sign it just as fast as Trump.

The tax bill might be the biggest, most destructive lie of the past 10 years.

Not exactly a lie, just another asinine comment and performance.

...under the portrait of Jackson. Nice.

The level of cluelessness is staggering.

To be expected with an all-about-me narcissist.

@Lost: in this morning's headlines, this report on our social cohesion:

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/nov/29/australia-still-embraces-multiculturalism-but-fracture-lines-are-deepening

What's upsetting for us on the point of anti-Semitism especially is most Australians have no idea that there were Jews on the First Fleet ships, establishing the original colonies, and that most of the major roads connecting our capital cities were established by Jewish pioneers & former convicts. Our thriving live theatre culture is due to a Jewish man who founded an opera company just on 200 years ago (I think, I'm a little fuzzy on dates, but yes, he's the one who raised the tone of the pub singing to international arts).

That toilet is solid gold.

You know, I got depressed today thinking of this freaking monstrosity. I hope to God, if it passes, that the Dems campaign on nothing but "replace and repeal" of this thing in 2018.

But I have no confidence that they'll do that.

Give it time and we'll see a real mugging of the elderly.

The tax bill will cause major deficits. In 5 - 7 years when it is realized and acknowledged there is a  serious deficit problem the Republicans will again be crying "deficit" and then go after entitlements - Soc Sec, Medicare and Medicaid. They will blatantly lie and tell us it was not the tax bill they passed many years ago that is causing the deficit. They will say its the entitlements.

I'm praying his biggest lie is what he promised today about North Korea "we'll take care of that". Shudder

BG9, I’m constantly amazed (even though I shouldn’t be) that supposedly numbers-clever people can’t understand that The National Economy won’t function properly if ordinary folk aren’t spending, because they can’t afford to, because they’re not feeling secure in their savings/safety net as well as with their weekly have-to-purchase. It doesn’t matter what you promise them or how you punish them, if they don’t have extra $$, they won’t spend.

Sigh.

they're trying to pass it even though it's the second-most unpopular bill in the past 30 years (only their ACA repeal bill was less popular):  https://www.salon.com/2017/11/20/gops-tax-bill-is-second-most-unpopular-legislation-in-30-years/

Almost everyone hates this "tax reform", and it's going to pass because Republican donors are demanding it.

Understatement of the year goes to NYT for this comment on Trump's retweeting anti-Muslim videos:

"It is unusual to see an American president push out this type of content on such a powerful social media platform."

I’d post those tweets as lies except they reveal too much about him.

I'd have to put his Inauguration crowd-size lie as the worst. It was almost his first statement as President, and it was a direct challenge to believe him or your eyes. Few of his lies have been as easily disproven as this one, and the fact that he never backed off was a signal that there would be no "Presidential" Trump coming - he would still be the same assh*** that he was during the campaign. (though some journalists still haven't figured this out.)

I've never seen polling on this particular lie, but I imagine that his diehard supporters believe even this one, which is as a remarkable statement that you can make about the American electorate imaginable. It signaled that he and his supporters were in a different reality, and they would embrace that reality wholeheartedly.

Tangent: just read on Axios that DJT was considering Flynn for VP before going to Pence. Imagine Flynn as a possible POTUS?

The investigation is a witch hunt.

but in this case they're finding real witches.

The witches seem to be lying to federal agents and laundering money.  Silly witches.

Well ... in that case, we might have had a better chance of getting both POTUS and VPOTUS impeached.
