The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

2018 Men's Club Champion? That's nothing. Kim Jong Il (father of chubby in North Korea) played 38 under par (including 11 hole-in-one's) at his first and only golf game in his life! Now that's the kind of leader I could be inspired by.

We see that Trump pardoned another of his deplorable's:

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Wednesday granted a full pardon to Conrad M. Black, the former press baron and onetime society fixture who was found guilty of fraud and obstruction of justice in 2007.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/15/us/politics/trump-conrad-black-pardon.html

Influential Trump supporters guilty of fraud and obstruction are guaranteed the Trump presidential pardon. What a way to use the office.

Precedents, normalization if you will, for the forgiveness of fraudsters and obstructors of justice. A future benefit to the Trump family.

so the plan is to recruit immigrants to take well-paying jobs that could have gone to people already living in the U.S., at the expense of uniting families.  Sounds like a lose-lose to me.

It's hard to fathom just how cruel Trump and his minions try to be.

What about "the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breath free"?

Give me your hungry, your tired your poor I'll piss on 'em
that's what the Statue of Bigotry says
Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death
and get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard

Another criterion, aides said, would be “patriotic assimilation,” a concept that would favor immigrants who had shown an active interest in incorporating the nation’s culture and way of life. One administration official offered an example in which green-card applicants would be required to pass an exam based on a reading of George Washington’s farewell address or Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist Association.

That's some straight-up horseshit right there.

Forget his tax filings for a moment; I want to see Trump's birth certificate.

That would be a great exam to give anybody before they qualify to run for President.

Perhaps you heard about a recent plane crash in Russia and the story about the passengers who worried about getting their luggage out with them? As a result, more lives were lost. This link kind of tells a different story...

Anything that diminishes the Russian leader just increases our wonder at the way Vlad is able to keep Trump locked in the role of his personal boy toy.

A follow up. The NY Times editorial we released today:

The full pardons of Conrad Black, a wealthy friend of Mr. Trump’s who has written charitably about him, and Patrick Nolan, a former Republican Assembly leader from California who has criticized aspects of the Russia investigation, are the latest examples in what seems to be a new trend in presidential clemency: mercy for lawbreakers in the mold of disgraced politicians, media personalities and political allies who have flattered, defended or curried favor with the president.

From the article: "Some, like the middlemen who negotiate drug prices, could be eliminated."

A tragedy, no doubt. Just think of all the jobs in the iron lung industry that were lost when we eliminated polio!

Not a fan enough to stay up past my bedtime on Saturday night — show gets lots of exposure the next day — but I found the old adage “bad publicity is better than no publicity” rings true.

How many Dems have thrown their hats in the ring? I actually am not sure. (The garden calls out to me these days.) Wonder how SNL will survive the comedic buffet of skits! SCOTUS will be left standing, perhaps, having the last laugh.

How many presidents were "taken down" by SNL?

Remember the good old days of 2015 when you thought it was a good thing that the Republicans had managed to pile 17 people into their clown car of presidential candidates?

Yes, but 18 is the limit, and only then does it change to comical.

Who cares? I don't think that anyone was seriously expecting an infrastructure plan with him in the WH anyways. And if it happened it would probably have explicitly excluded any tunnels or infrastructure in Blue States like NJ, so blowing this up is only hurting his own supporters if you think about it.

the Dems and R's are so far apart on infrastructure that our roads will continue to rot until we have Dems controlling Congress and in the Prez. Not sure why anyone (including Pelosi) is pretending otherwise.

Unless she's talking about Trump's hair, will Pelosi be able to substantiate her 'Cover-Up' claims, given the two year Mueller investigation producing nothing tangible?  It's typical politics as we wave goodbye to an infrastructure bill.  Let's all pat our representatives on the back as they continue to kick the can down the road on things that matter.

You don't think hiding his tax returns at all cost is a "cover up"?

Let's review a few of his excuses:

- I'll release them - but they're under audit.  (will we ever get confirmation of this?)

- They're really not exciting - you get more information from the financial summary.

- I won - people elected me without seeing them.

- At one point, he even said that he would release them after he leaves office: https://www.latimes.com/politics/washington/la-na-essential-washington-updates-trump-now-says-he-ll-release-his-taxes-1494533996-htmlstory.html

The other cover up is refusing to let McGahn testify and claiming executive privilege when it's not applicable.

Pelosi's remark was just what Trump latched onto for his temper tantrum.  He had no intention of having a productive meeting on infrastructure (as the "Rose Garden" press preparations, for right after he stormed out, pretty much demonstrates).

it's absolutely shocking, shocking! that anyone could possibly come to the conclusion that Trump is covering something up.  He's so totally not acting like a guy who's got something to hide.

No, I don't care about his or any other president's tax returns.  I will argue that the majority of Americans of varying ideologies don't care either.

The beltway mentality has always been a step beyond reality, out of touch and in recent years, juvenile.

so you believe that it's not a "cover up" if a majority of people don't care about it?  that's interesting.

This post averages more than one error per sentence. Very impressive.

I don't believe either way, In things like this I'm an empiricist rather than a theorist.
