Well, after 16,000+ posts, no one's surprised by the POV. I'll say this: while it's sometimes infuriating, libs need to scrimmage with someone on this board. And if you've been through the Pennboy and Zoinks "era," mtierney's a treat. smile
Can anyone confirm that "zoinks" passed earlier this year? I saw a FB post saying so, but haven't seen an obit, or the like.
I don't know about that.  But he did retire the zoinks persona on MOL.  He posted a rather long essay about how the 2016 election, as well as other well-publicized events made him rethink a lot of his attitudes.  It seemed really heartfelt, and pretty remarkable that someone would come to this board and make what was essentially an apology and a mea culpa.

He hasn't posted here since March 2018, but I hadn't heard anything about him passing.

I heard this too, but it was again second-hand.

I quite miss Pennboy, actually.

You're a much larger person than I. smile

His assaults on unions and teachers drove me from MOL for a period.

not your version for sure!
Therein lies the problem. There are people out there who think there are different versions of reason.

Indeed.

There are multiple reasons why and how people think or believe or act. Nationality,  cultural, race, ethnicity, sex, and more play roles in how folks process information and life experiences. Yes, also political opinions. We would have to be robots, programmed with identical information, and not humans at all, to think, reason, and form identical opinions. That is why people gravate toward comfort zones where like-minded thinking exists.

The Ten Commandments sets forth what is right and wrong. People have lots of reasons to disagree.

 Reason:

noun

  1. basis or cause, as for some belief, action, fact, event, etc.:>span class="one-click" data-term="reason" data-linkid="nn1ov4" href="reason" class="redactor-linkify-object">https://www.dictionary.com/reason">reason for declaring war.
  2. statement presented in justification or explanation of a belief or action:dare you to give me one good reason for quitting school!
  3. >span class="one-click" data-term="mental" data-linkid="nn1ov4" href="mental" class="redactor-linkify-object">https://www.dictionary.com/mental">mental powers concerned with forming conclusions, judgments, or inferences:Effective leadership requires person of reason.

And no one misses GOP Man.  Typical of the lib mindset, anyone who strays from the orthodoxy is marginalized, or even persecuted.  I've been away for several years because it had become clear that anyone who proudly professes the greatness of America, reveres God, and understands the glory of capitalism, is not welcome here.

It's always special when a Trump apologist talks about the Ten Commandments.

Trump said that now that the midterms are over he is going to change up to five of the commandments:

"I have three or four or five that I’m thinking about. Of that, maybe it’s going to end up being two. But I need flexibility," Trump said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday."

Really. Has he failed to fail at any of the 10?

The link above, while not about Washington or the Rose Garden, offers a look at what can happen in a nation, even one with a “large social network.”

France’s President Macron struts on the world stage, while Marseille builds sports stadiums instead of tearing down its unsafe neighborhoods and providing safe housing.

Aside from rounding up the usual suspects —political corruption, financial greed, and amnesia — I await Macron’s answers, actions, and solutions!

Does America have a larger or smaller "social network" than France, I wonder?

Let us stipulate that there is no correlation between the size of a country's social network and the state of that country's infrastructure.

It's not the size that matters, it's the girth.

I'm also wondering why there's been no comment on the Chicago hospital shooting, in which others (not just the shooter's ex-fiancée) including a police officer were injured or killed.

No comment on the ruling on the Mexico border.

No comment about the really fanciful bin Laden comments made over the past few days, that really don't reflect any understanding of operational reality at the time or of historical perspective. (I'm enjoying Imran Khan's restraint)

Lots of things domestically to reflect on, without having to cast about dramatically to Europe.

I'd better go to bed before I get into trouble... cheese

FYI, we're talking about definition 3, not the first two.

Reason itself disagrees with the Ten Commandments. Only 6 of them deal with individual moral conduct. The first four have no bearing over anyone who is not Jewish, Christian or Muslim, which is about half the population of the world. There's a commandment forbidding adultery, but not one forbidding rape or incest, which are surely more egregious crimes. There's nothing in there forbidding slavery, either, but there is one forbidding simply wanting something someone else has. In setting forth what is right and wrong, The Ten Commandments leave a lot to be desired.

All the really important stuff was in Commandments 11-15

I’am on the hop today (or trot) so I will submit  brief responses:

France is smaller in area than Texas.

The poor condition of our infrastructure is no secret — #1 priority going forward IMO.

Domestic violence (Chicago shooting) I believe will be linked to mental illness. And, of course, the proliferation and availability of guns.

The migrants massed south of our San Diego border with Mexico is a disaster waiting to happen. Timing, it is said, is everything.

Meanwhile, California is dealing with raging fires, deaths not yet fully assessed, property damage, and a population suddenly homeless. These folks also lost jobs, businesses, livelihoods, and, tragically, loved ones. The cleanup and rebuilding process will be  long time issues. Predictions for mudslides in fire ravaged hills loom as rain is predicted tomorrow.

California promoted itself as a sanctuary state —now California is in great need.

I hope the moderate Democrats coming to Congress in January will see that the USA must come together in a bipartisan way, and focus on this country’s issues first and foremost.

We can give the migrants rakes to rake all of the forests in California to prevent future forest fires.  Solves all manner of problems in one beautiful stroke.

P.S.  You make the few thousand migrants "migrants massed south of our San Diego border" sound like the armies of Genghis Khan ready to descend upon Europe.  You need to stop watching Fox News.

Thank you for taking time to clarify all this for us.

The bone-spur president, who is afraid to visit the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, has the nerve to diss a Navy Seal hero.

It's science that even Republicans can get behind.  Although I'm surprised they don't defiantly eat romaine anyway just to own the libs.
