What does it mean to be "banned" on MOL?

Some of you seem to think that this is a forum for international diplomacy with lives in the balance.  Every infraction of some perceived decorum needs to be reported to moderators for appropriate punishment.

Everyone here should get whatever they care to from posts here, and take all of it with a grain of salt.

As far as being banned, sometimes you have to let someone have it with both barrels regardless of the consequences.

The most frequent and obvious way to get at banned on MOL (at least in my observation) is failure to distinguish between an attack on another poster's opinion, " Your idea is (insert easily understood substitute for language that is censored on MOL)." vs  "You are (insert easily understood substitute for language that is censored on MOL)."

Another sure way to get banned is to write something that could be construed as opening MOL up to being named in a lawsuit because of its content.  How many of us remember the time MOL was sued for just this reason?  If the poster/incident in question is what I think it is, it would seem to fall into this latter category.  One such statement could simply be deleted by the administrators.  Multiple posts of this nature over several threads are far more difficult to control in this manner and could well lead to the poster being banned.

On the topic of having multiple user names in reserve in the event of being banned:

Sometimes it is easy for the administrators to tell if a recently banned individual is returning with a new user identity, sometimes not so much.  Using multiple devices from multiple locations and/or using an ISP that assigns a random address every time you log on could make it difficult for administrators to know for certain that a banned individual had returned under a new identity.  Similarities in posting style can be just that -similarities.

From my limited observation, it appears to me that most banned posters returning immediately under a new identity are given a clean slate until they repeat whatever infraction got them banned in the first place.  Too many such repeated infractions seem to be the cause for a lifetime ban.

I am not sure that I have ever reported a poster other than a spam post...

No one is addressing my question.

If Kings Supermarket bans me from entering because I was once caught shoplifting I can't show up there and gain access just by using a different name.

I might try a disguise but if I got caught I'd be thrown out. I certainly couldn't proclaim myself to be the person who got banned while wearing the disguise and expect not to be ejected.

On MOL one can be "banned", log on under a different name, admit being the person banned and continue to post.

His other username has been banned and is now claiming MOL is anti-Israel and no one on MOL is allowed to support Israel (on Facebook).

Dear lord. How did it get to this? Stop being, so, like uncool.

there are people who seem completely lacking in self-awareness.  It's not lost on me that this is a person who goes on and on about "PC" interfering with free speech, and criticizes what he thinks is the rush to accuse people of racism while he wants to stifle criticism of Israel, and rushes to accuse people of anti-Semitism.

Where on Facebook?

it's gone now

Unfortunately -

When people in Maplewood wrote about our local Olympian, the accusatory posts arrived on Facebook and MOL.

Same thing happened when the lawn signs went out and were publicized.

Same thing happened when public gatherings to watch the fencing were publicized.

People who responded, that such accusations went too far, were similarly subject to similar accusations.

So, when there is another public acknowledgement, in the form of a "Welcome Home" or other local event, more of the same probably will be forthcoming.

I used to report metalart all the time. He would get drunk late at night and post truly vile stuff. He was allowed to stay around way too long and created a toxic atmosphere that drove people away, IMHO. He should have been banned much sooner.

Strawberry, on the other hand -- I always enjoyed his shenanigans.
