The person in charge of NJ transit (platform and lots) is in New Hampshire for some job interview thing. Unfortunately, my understanding is that the hiring committee sees neglect of things like basic infrastructure as a plus, so we probably can't expect too much improvement in the near future.

Whaddya expect him to do?  Come down here with a shovel?

(Reference his smart-ass retort regarding the flooding in southern NJ>)

Argh. That took me way longer to get than it should have. Bravo.

(Then again, a certain pun on "mulling" might have slipped through, too ... cheese )

I must say that although the OP's words were extreme and I disagree with what should have been done by DPW by end of day Monday I think there is a definite problem now.

As of last night (I got off train at about 9:30) the snow was still not cleared on either side of Baker St. and parts of Dunnell bordering the middle school even though no one parked there yesterday or the day before due to the warnings put up to not park there (and the emails that went out) for snow removal purposes. People pay a decent amount of money to the town to get permits to park in these spots and I would think that after 3 full weekdays and 4 days after the snowfall would be enough time to get back these spots that people use to park near the station. (And yes, I plan to voice my complain directly to the powers that be today too.)

I suppose the question is how much do snow removal contracts with construction companies cost.  On Tuesday night, for example, I saw Scott's Excavating removing snow piles from the Springfield Shoprite parking lot - loading dumptrucks and taking it somewhere.

Uhh..how much do you pay for your parking and jitney permit?  Its pretty cheap compared to us South Orangers - we pay $225 just for the jitney and don't ask about parking (and that is after a 5+ year waiting list).

I was pleased to see that Dunnell was plowed on the block bordering the apartment building and the Civic House. Much wider today. Awesome! Now the block between Oakland and Jefferson needs to get replowed, too: it's dangerously narrow.  :/

Baker is plowed too, but the no parking signs are still there. So the spots are available, but you can't park.

I saw DPW out in force early yesterday afternoon on Baker Street between Valley and Dunnell. They had the street closed off as they scooped up loads of snow from the street and loaded that snow onto trucks for removal.  They are definitely doing their best to clear the roadways.  I wish they would give some of that attention to the public sidewalks around Memorial Park which are still snow encrusted and likely to be an icy mess this morning.  It may be that the no parking signs are still up so pedestrians can walk in the street until sidewalk conditions improve.
