The Who Destroys Their Legacy: Way To Go archived

From you mouth to God's ear ...

y'all are just a bunch of haters. the who is going to rock the super bowl halftime like it ain't never been rocked.

{i pray that roger's mic malfunctions and we just get a 12 minute jam session...}

The promos are funny. 90% clips from 60s-70s era Who, 10% current.

Wyclef Jean would have been a topical choice but then it would have made sense to talk about Pierre garcon's Haitian ancestry before the midde of the 4th Q last week.

Back to the Who...they're palying...let's get past that.....4 songs: Let's guess

Pinball Wizard
We Won't Get Fooled Again
Long Live Rock
Who Are You?

They're doing a medley of sorts.
Pinball Wizard, Baba O'Reily, Who Are You, Won't Get Fooled Again and some of Tommy. I read about it on Gibson.com.
Pete may be 763 years old, but for me he remains one of rock's brilliant minds and performers.

I too heard it's going to be a 'mash up' of their 'top' songs (WXRP commented on this today).

I almost said Bee Gees, (really) - any idea if Tina also meets the criteria? think her last hit was close to 1990...

Ah, here:

* "Typical Male" (1986)

* "Poor Fool" (1962)

Last year, Mr. Springsteen sort of played with the fact that he'd been given twelve minutes, announcing that he'd be there "for the next twelve minutes". I assume that there will be no near-disastrous knee-slides in this year's Super Bowl halftime show.

Here is the playlist for The Who...

Won't Get Fooled Again
Baba O'Riley

And then Pete reaches way back, dismisses Roger and sings...

Begin The Beguine
O'Parvardigar

Back to Soul 29’s trivia question:

It looks to me that Aretha makes the cut, not that I recognize any of her “hits” from the 80s and 90s.

Carlos Santana makes the grade if you consider ‘Santana’ to be a single entity throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

Kenny Rogers is a near miss, but the group First Edition didn’t bear Rogers’ name when they made “I Just Dropped In”, their only Top-40 hit of the 60s. They changed their name to Kenny Rogers and the First Addition in 1969, but their other hit of that decade (“Ruby Don’t Take Your Love to Town”) didn’t crack the Top-40. Rogers went on to have many Top-40 hits in 70s, 80s and 90s.

And he walked in the winning run in Game 6.

Pants on the ground!!

Santana DID NOT have a Top 40 hit in the 60's ... First charted with Evil Ways on 2/7/70 ...

Yes, Aretha makes the cut ... Good one.

And Kenny Rogers didn't have a Top 40 hit in the 90's (Thank God!) ...

Correct you are. I was looking at release dates of singles and highest chart position, but not the date of actually reaching the Top-40.

Tom: Sounds like you keep a copy of Billboard's Top 40 Hits on your desk too!

Here's one ... A variation on the theme ... Elvis Presley had hits in the 50's, 60,s 70's and 80's ... Heartbreak Hotel 3/10/1956 ... Stuck On You 4/11/1960 ... Kentucky Rain 2/21/1970 ... Gutar Man (Remix) 2/28/1981 ...

If you’re counting remixes and reissues, I think the Beach Boys might be included in the 60s to 90s game.

Also for the 60s to 90s, what about Gladys Knight?

TC: Beach Boys did not have a Top 40 hit in the 90's ... Kokomo was their last Top 40 hit on 9/24/88.

Gladys Knight is an interesting case. Yes, she had hits in the 60's, 70's and 80's with the Pips ... However, her only foray into the Top 40 in the 90's was as part of Brandy, Tamia, Gladys Knight & Chaka Khan ... Missing You from the movie Set It Off ...

Judges?

Set up has begun.....

uggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Total legacy destruction

teenage wasteland now, wow these are SHORT bits. And no, he can't sing any more.

amazing laser show will save the day

Sorry, but Pete's windmills showing his, um, gut, aren't doing it for me.

Nothing will save this. This is the worst moment in recorded history.

Ringo's son is going to crawl off the stage.
