the Reservoir Restaurant is NOT closing

Heard rumors, and asked the owner about them  He is not moving from their spot on South Organge Ave.

He just bought a brand new pizza oven!

(my Tony Salad)

I heard another rumor that the first rumor was started by someone who wanted them gone so they could take over. Not sure if the rumor about the rumor is true, but I can ask my cousin's college roomate's boyfriend who knows a guy who overheard someone else talking about it and see if there is any validity to it.

Glad to hear and the Tony's Salad rocks!

I love the Rigatoni a la Jake!  Yum!  What exactly is in the Tony Salad?  I'm always tempted to order it but there's never a description on the menu.

I think this might be the first restaurant to purchase a new pizza oven, other than when they opened.

Tony salad is kind of a mix between salad and antipasto.  Lots of pepperoni, cheese, black olives, some red onion, nice oil and vinegar dressing. Iceberg lettuce. It's good!

I thought it had arugula, or some type of mixed greens in it, not iceberg. Though admittedly it has been awhile since I had one.

From an online review: Salad, Cherry tomatoes, roasted red peppers, pepperoni, salami, cucumbers, mozzarella & provolone cheeses with Italian herbs and oil & vinegar. Feeds 2 hungry people or a small family with one serving!

Pretty sure about the iceberg lettuce, but would gladly stand corrected.

We just ordered one. We were both wrong. It has romaine lettuce.

Ok then. Better than iceberg.

Last time we ordered it, it seemed to have less "stuff" and more lettuce. How is yours today?

Heavy on the meat. I used to eat them for lunch a lot years ago when I worked in South Orange. I don't remember this much meat. It is good, but definitely lighter on the greens than I remember. And I swear that back then there was some arugula, but it was a long time ago so I may have had another salad on occasion and forgotten which one I had.

Guess it depends a bit on who is making it.

Love their PIZZA too! It's got just the right amount of cheese and sauce and is cooked just right; a little crusty on the bottom! Mmmmmmm! (we get mushroom + sausage  for toppings).

As an aside maybe we can invite Author in as a guest speaker on the abomination of restaurants that put lettuce in Greek salads.

Waitaminute.... there's no lettuce in a Greek salad?

As a world traveler I am sure you know that there is not supposed to be.

And a shepherd's pie shouldn't have beef in it, but that doesn't stop American restaurants from doing so.

Yes but if they were to  call the same thing Cottage Pie they would be fine.

In all honesty (and author has the right to criticize if he'd like) I've not been.  I imagine if its not some lettuce, olive, lemon, oil thing as I imagine, then it's tomatoes and olives and oil and feta?

I'm no world traveler, but I have been to Greece—we visited a good handful of cities/islands—where we went to many family owned restaurants. The Greek salad we were served definitely had lettuce. Here, where we frequent several Greek restaurants that are not diners, I've seen a regular Greek salad on the menu does not have lettuce. (Or stuffed grape leaves.)

An American-style "Greek" salad, served with lettuce

Greek salad (Greek: χωριάτικη σαλάτα [xorˈjatiki saˈlata] "rustic salad" or θερινή σαλάτα [θeriˈni saˈlata] "summer salad") is a salad in Greek cuisine.
Greek salad is made with pieces of tomatoes, sliced cucumbersonionfeta cheese, and olives (usually Kalamata olives), typically seasoned with salt and oregano, and dressed with olive oil. Common additions include green bell pepper slices or berries of capers (especially in the Dodecanese islands).
Outside Greece, "Greek salad" may be a lettuce salad with Greek-inspired ingredients, even though the original dish is distinguished by the absence of lettuce. Outside Greece, the salad without lettuce may be calledhoriatiki, "country salad", "peasant salad", or "village salad". Lettuce, tomatoes, feta, and olives are the most standard elements in an American-style Greek salad, but cucumbers, peperoncini (pickled hot peppers), bell peppers, onions, radishesdolmades, and anchovies/sardines are common. In Detroit for example, a Greek salad also includes beets, and in the Tampa Bay Area it often includes potato salad. Rather than simple olive oil and vinegar, as in a normal Greek lettuce salad, prepared dressings containing various herbs and seasonings are frequently employed. This style of Greek salad is rarely encountered in Greece.

I had the best Greek salad of my life EVER....in Greece, of course. Crete. I can still see the red tomatoes, chopped cucumbers, huge feta chunks..mmmm

At the newly re-opened Maplewood Diner they put anchovies on the Greek Salad.

Interesting. Same here, but nary a leaf to be found in our salads.

Now, if anybody could point me to a good retsina like the cold ambrosia we drank with them  ...

we get retsina. Not sure if you'd consider it good, but on ice in the summer, I'm happy. Kourtaki is one brand we usually get, but there's another one that's a little less  resin-y tasting if you prefer a more subtle flavor.

Thanks, @ssh. The annual Greek festival in Philadelphia served Kourtaki, and we liked it, too. But I never see it in the liquor stores I go to. Where to you get it?
