clever coverup, but I would not put anti-Catholism in the past tense...here is a brief recap of history for you
There really isn't any institutional anti-Catholicism in America any more. And, if you think it is anti-Catholic to anti-Christian to say that you cannot make your religious values the law of the land (e.g. abortion laws, marginalizing LGBT people), then maybe you should join Trump for some classes on the U.S. Constitution.

There are those who walk the walk and then there are those .......
The negativity on this thread, including (perhaps especially) mine, has kept me away from here lately. But I read that article this morning and I'm confused by what it was that makes him the first US born martyr, and I guess this leads those us who aren't believers to continue questioning the thinking behind Catholicism.
Four American nuns were raped and murdered and buried in a shallow grave in El Salvador 7 months prior to the death of Father Stanley in Guatemala, and yet I see no mention of their martyrdom or beatification. Weren't they good enough? What extra services did Father Stanley perform that these four women did not?

The four churchwomen (Jean Donovan was a lay missionary, not a nun) who were murdered in El Salvador are widely believed to have been martyred by many: http://globalsistersreport.org/news/1980-2015-memory-el-salvadors-church-martyrs-lives-34431

Leftist priest murdered by conservatives because he tried to help the poor. Its a tale that is timely, timeless and as old as Christ himself.
at some point, can we agree that we will just never agree?
And, Dave, where were you when I was being attacked awhile back?
This thread is negative? Not by me!

Negativity is the last thing I would accuse you of, mtierney.
Irish Archbishops Address Mass Murder of Infants in Church Home
It is good to see the Church calling for a full inquiry into this atrocity. One could speculate on how this would have been handled under Pope Ratzinger or John Paul but it is clear that Pope Francis has turned a page on those dark days with his emphasis on justice for all people.

A song of humility in the midst of a regime of arrogance. How timely!
some of you may be aware that my husband has been ill for almost a year. He's had a set-back, but he is home and getting well!
More prayers for his continued recovery would be very appreciated. : ">
@Jamie -- the above post kept disappearing behind the emojis box ,and revealing just the last line of my post. If this is only happening to me, I wouldn't be surprised!
interesting life story about career change
Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall mtierney ever citing what Jesus said or did (or likely would say or do) about most of the issues that have been mentioned. If we are going to talk about Christians and Christianity, might do well not to forget his views on these subjects.
perhaps something such as:
"Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone....."

Ignorant of history - that's what kind you are. It was not too, too long ago that institutional anti-Catholicism was very mainstream in America.
