Ive never encountered that, I don't know how it is possible for it to be spinning the wrong way. Is it possibly a DC motor designed to work with a battery? In that case reversing the polarity might work. If it's 110V (AC current) I don't think the rotation can be reversed and should probably be returned to where you bought it.
Is it possible that it is running but there is a blockage in the piping? Could your check valve be upside down or backwards?
Another problem with sump pumps is that the drainage pipe sometimes gets clogged with dirt. Where is the pump supposed to discharge to?
Do you have a "slop sink" in your basement? If you do, I can give you a temporary fix.
Troubleshooting needs to start before that. Does water gush out if there is no discharge pipe or check valve attached? Start there.
Thanks for the response guys and I am sorry for the delay. @filmcarp, yes the water keeps gushing out.
Yes, it sounds like the pump is working. The drain pipe must be blocked.

Hey guys I bought a sump pump from a plumbing company ( http://www.advancedplumbing.ca/plumbing/sump-pumps/) and I instaled it. The problem is that I can hear the pump motor running but it's not pumping any water. I checked the pump impeller and it is rotating backwards. I don't why it's not working properly. It would be great if you guys could give me some suggestions on how to fix this.
