What does Putin want (and whatabout it)

Cancel Them!

Please, let’s not cancel anyone who outs a publicly bestowed and easily identified “like.”

It was answered here: https://news.stanford.edu/report/2023/01/04/it-website-in-the-news/

But that answer was rejected by one of the guys who I asked the question (who liked your post)

Former NYT war correspondent and bureau chief Chris Hedges, who is speaking on Feb 19, explains why coalitions necessarily include people who you disagree with on other issues,

Like that time he urged that people put aside their differences in order to accomplish the larger goal of making sure Donald Trump wasn't elected President in 2016.

[Edited to add] This comment is for Ms. Nan, also.

You can't "out" a "like", since they're public and anyone can look at them.  I mentioned Ms. Nan because she went to great lengths to explain to me how Chris Hedges was correct in opposing the Democratic nominee in the 2016 general election. So it's hardly "outing" Christopher Hedges to mention that.

The crankiness of Paul's response suggests that there's no real excuse for the hypocrisy of Chris Hedges, which was pointed out in the post.

I replied to another tweet by this ultra-leftist. Here he featured a photo of Ron Paul, who collaborated with Barney Franks and other liberal representatives on issues of civil liberties and war and peace. Which sort of contradicts his point altogether.

I can't say that David North's point is "contradicted" by whatever it was that Ron Paul and Barney Frank had agreed on.

I can say that I am 100% in agreement with Mr. Surovell's description of the anti-Ukraine rally that Ron Paul is speaking at. It's definitely "not for ending imperialism". It's a rally demanding that Ukraine be defenseless against Russia's war of conquest, expansionism and imperialism. It's about as "pro-imperialism" as a rally can be.

The hate rally is being live-streamed on YouTube. The insufferable Jimmy Dore and friends.

I started watching. JImmy Dore called the Ukrainians Nazis, and made a "joke" about sending money to Zelensky for cocaine, and that was enough of that cr@p for me.

OMFG… I will pass. I just had lunch.

I wonder if anyone was critical of Putin?  I scanned through it and there was far more outrage over the US than there was over the decimation of Ukraine that (from what I see) is being carried out by Russia.  Am I wrong?

The size of the rally was pathetically small, estimated to be around 1000 people.

From the first minute it was “what about Iraq and Afghanistan and Central America”… apparently the USA is performing some covert activities to invade Russia and convert them to democracy. According to these “ragers” it’s a direct war between Russia and America… they have stopped using the word “proxy” and “nazi”.

Russian flags waiving in the breeze at the anti-Ukraine rally, so probably not.

[Edited to add] Along with other assorted participants in Putinpalooza.

Biden observed the day differently.

Also, please enjoy the outrage from a Ukraine hater.

I don’t think these people realize how many Ukrainians live in America and Canada. To stand there and rationalize Russian aggression and genocide against the Ukrainian people, it’s got to be very disheartening for them to see this.
These people are way too comfortable living in a country that has so much freedom that it allows them to display their insanity in public.

Even if they do realize it, the fact is that they don't care. Our local Ukraine haters are an example of that.

No, you probably don't. I doubt that you actually know any of them.

Coverage of the "Raging Against Ukraine" rally yesterday, from the World Socialist Web Site - The “Rage Against the War Machine” rally: A reactionary political freak show

The “Rage Against the War Machine” rally held yesterday in Washington, D.C., was a political freak show attended by a motley crowd of several hundred Libertarian Party supporters, neo-fascists, and disoriented and demoralized middle-class individuals without an independent program or perspective. The speeches, many of which were obscenity-laced rants, were pitched to the lowest political level. By the time the event finally dribbled to an end, it had left nothing behind but confusion and a bad smell.
Even on its own terms, the event was an organizational fiasco, with a turnout of approximately 750 to 1,000 people, at most, despite being promoted on Fox News by Tucker Carlson and other right-wing outlets.

The whole thing was a toxic cloud of irony. In their backwards thinking, allowing Russian aggression is supposed to help reduce the threat of nuclear war.

now, that tweet is some seriously histrionic hysterical b.s. right there.

"grown exponentially"?

"capable of hitting every city"?

no wonder paul retweeted it.

That is one of the saddest rallies I've ever seen.

Also- MTG criticizing Zelenskyy for not wearing a tie - is just weird.  I'm sure there were also be just as much criticism if he wore a suit and tie.

False warning to citizenry by government agency of incoming ballistic missiles? -- Eh.

Just another day in the "Escalation could lead to nuclear war -- eh" mindset.

Ironically, the demand of the rally was to stop the aggression. But when you're into using Ukraine as a proxy to "defeat" Russia, that simple fact gets clouded.

In defense of your favorite authority on the anti-war movement, it's true that the speakers at the rally weren't calling for overthrowing the ruling class in a socialist revolution.

Bull caca. The “aggression” they opposed was Ukrainians defending themselves from Russia.

You apparently realize -- as your comment implies -- that not all residents of Maplewood and South Orange who are Ukrainian agree with your position on the war. But even among those who agree with you I'm sure that most if not all would defend the rights of others to express a contrary view.

Regarding @Jaytee's remark, there is a Ukrainian scholar in Canada who doesn't accept official dogma on how the war started and how it should be ended.

They came to America and Canada, ostensibly to enjoy life in a democracy where citizens are free to express what they believe in, even when they don't agree with the government or corporate media.

Especially when they don't agree with the government or corporate media.

Assuming (which I don't) that that is true, that makes your indifference even more irresponsible.
