The Manhattan DA case could actually work in Trump’s favor if it was the only legal proceeding he was facing. The stakes are fairly low. Even if it turns into a felony conviction he’s unlikely to serve jail time. Maybe he loses his right to vote?
In the meantime he gets to play the “aggrieved white male conservative” who is being aggressively targeted by a New York City DA, and claim that he's the only one who can protect everyday Americans from being wrongfully prosecuted for their political beliefs.
He’ll bank a fukkton of money from suckers who believe his bull shite. And the crime itself is one which can be more easily dismissed in the minds of his supporters. “He just paid a porn actress blackmail money so she couldn’t destroy his campaign!!”
I also predict some dogwhistle racist comments about Bragg (and James and Willis).
The Jack Smith investigation has more punch, I think, if they can get it into court. His behavior regarding the classified documents and how he worked to cover up their existence and block efforts to return them is much more blatantly criminal to the broader public, in my opinion.
It's ironic that the payoff to Stormy is now coming back to wreck what the payoff was supposed to prevent in the first place. Also, if AG demands his extradition and DeSantis denies it, I'm sure DeSantis could play that up as protecting Trump while also going around the country campaigning for himself while Trump is essentially caged up in Florida. In summer.
I think it’s also ironic that if he had just paid her $130,000 out of his own pocket none of this would have happened. Instead it became this strange brew of campaign funds, his lawyer’s money, falsified business statements and potential tax fraud.
He’s not going to wait to be extradited. He won’t want to appear to be hiding in Florida. He’ll voluntarily appear for processing in this case.
And if Jack Smith drops charges on him, well, the Feds don’t need Florida to give permission to come get him.
I love the idea of holding off on the indictment in New York, let him steam in mar-E-Lardo , and get his anxiety levels up for a while…. he can collect more money from his MAGATs while he stuffing his face with Dave’s double cheeseburgers and coke.
He made a post on Trooth Social showing a photograph of Alvin Bragg, spliced with a photograph of himself holding a baseball bat behind him. It’s pretty obviously supposed to be intimidating.
If he’s under indictment and free on bail and he pulls that sort of stunt again, he could find himself in violation of his release. A judge could order him into detention.

There are plenty of people who eat up this kind of display. And he knows it.

I not as concerned about the “people who eat up this kind of display” as I am about those who don’t care but support him anyway.

This is how DJT has the GOP by the gonads. There is a mass of people who will vote for the Republican candidate no matter who it is. Then there are MAGAs who come out in enough numbers to swing the primaries. The mainstream Republicans find themselves having to choose between a criminal who will support their policy positions or a decent human who won’t.
But I digress.
I am worried about the people who buy his “tough guy” schtick because there is a subset of those who will see it as an invitation to violence. And many of them are armed with enormously deadly weapons. Even if there were no organized insurrection of lot of people could get badly hurt or killed before it was over.
So even if only a dozen ultraMAGAs decide to bring their assault rifles to Mar-A-Lago to resist an arrest on behalf of their fuhrer, it could be a deadly shootout.
Likewise if a group decided to drive into Manhattan or DC and attack people at the court buildings.
It’s scary stuff.

THE USA IS NOW A THIRD WORLD NATION, A NATION IN SERIOUS DECLINE. SO SAD!

Can't wait until the title of this thread matches reality and additional indictments are filed.

it's so weird that the MAGAs act like they are super patriots but they obviously hate this country. They describe it as a dystopian hellhole. If this country is great, why does TFG need to make it "great again"?

How much time have you got?

not enough.
I'll also add that for decades my contention has been that right wingers love America, but don't particularly like Americans.
Right wingers love America in their image. It has always been asked - when was America Great in their opinion - the 50s? Their version of "great" amounts to no limit for guns, abortions permanently banned in all cases and transgender bathroom laws. Oh - and no more "rainbow" songs.

I'm pretty sure there is no specific era that they really think was "great." The 50s was when the Civil Rights movement started, so it couldn't have been that great to them. I suspect it's some sort of mythic past that never actually ever existed.
Just heard that due to the seriousness of the charges against Trump, the court has decided that he will be tried as an adult.
Commenters suggest, he will still hear everything read out to him as a child.
They’ll have to read it out to him, because, as Bob Woodward mentions from White House insiders in his book ‘Fear’, you couldn’t count on Trump to read more than one paragraph of anything. Half a page, on a really good day.
A long wait for marksierra's appearance on the politics side but it was worth it.
One point that isn't mentioned too much was how much T**** bragged that he couldn't be indictment as a sitting president. He hid behind this shield on a daily basis.
I always felt that his need to maintain the throne was to avoid prosecution.

That’s why he is still going to run for president now even after being indicted. He delayed this case in NYC concerning the hush money, hoping to run out the statute of limitations, and if he becomes president again, he will have another layer of Teflon added. All the stalling and refusing subpoenas are part of his strategy to run out the clock. I’m sure his lawyers are going to bring up the matter of statutes, and they will prolong this trial hoping he can become president again.
It will be interesting watching this case.
I also think he announced his nomination early to also provide a layer of coverage - that perhaps a leading candidate should be free from prosecution until after the election.

And now he says that the only reason for the indictment is that he is running for President.
T****ers are out in bedminster One sign not pictured was Hang Hunter.
I guess this did ignite his base a bit. Fortunately it has shrunk recently.
Remember the caravan of trumpers who blocked the parkway? They were mostly from New York. Maybe Tuesday they will come out in manhattan with their flags. People should avoid driving in New York Tuesday. His lawyers are going to try to get the trial moved to Staten Island … I wonder why.
