Arming teachers is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. Any off the rails kid with a deathwish would know what teachers are armed and start with them. And if a kid doesn't have a gun, just ambush an armed teacher and get that gun.
I'm sure there would be instances of heroic teachers stopping a psychopath in his tracks, but that would be the exception.
Hard to see how any rational person thinks arming teachers is a good idea, net-net.
there are some things that we can completely agree upon.
isn't school difficult enough for kids already without turning their buildings into the equivalent of prisons? The GOP solutions of single entrances, metal detectors, armed personnel, all sounds completely soul crushing for kids.
The administrative side of it should also be great fun. We could get a bunch of teachers in a school requesting to be armed, the administration denying some teachers' requests while allowing other teachers' requests, and then being sued by the teachers who are denied. A shooting done by a denied teacher would also be a new plot twist.

Sooner or later there will be a shooting by a legally armed teacher. What will they say then, I wonder.

Or what if the teacher gets mistaken for the shooter and gets killed by (other teacher? police?)?

Sadly, the possible variations are endless.
So, in 1972 there was an armed break-in at a small school in regional Victoria, by prison escapees. A very young female teacher and her 6 terrified young students were held hostage while people were notified. Some time later they were shoved in a van and taken elsewhere…
Mary eventually managed to kick down the locked door where they were held, and lead the girls away. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_School_kidnapping
No need for a gun, no need for any other school to keep guns except for cadet training. Since then, maybe 3 instances of guns brandished on school grounds (no-one killed), and still no need for metal/weapons scanners at schools.
I get this feeling that this thread will be running for years to come…
Leaving for vacation today. First stop Ohio. Then off to Michigan.
https://www.city-journal.org/ohio-political-transformation
“Ohio is the most important state in the country,” wrote Washington Post commentator Chris Cillizza in 2012, possibly looking to highlight how incumbent Barack Obama held the largest polling lead there. Obama’s message secured the Rust Belt for Democrats in 2008 and 2012, but in 2016 and 2020, this advantage melted away. In the 2022 midterms, given strong chances for the GOP to pick up Democrat-held congressional seats, Ohio remains of towering electoral importance—and it has now become Republicans’ state to lose.

How many days does New Jersey require you to stay in quarantine, after returning from your trip?
re: vacation - enjoy!
re: e. coli, one traveler/journalist's(?) advice was to eat only stews/soups you've seen boiled and fruit you peel yourself, and drink only beer. Don't know if it works.
Australian tourists used to be advised to drink ‘local water’ after you had boiled and cooled it, then added Cottees Cordial. That brand of cordial had a combined sugar and Vit C level high enough to kill most bugs in your gut.

Seriously, travel well and stay safe - enjoy the break!

Young guy behind me is driving a circa 1972 Ford Ltd. Cherry.
By any chance, are you driving a Delorean tricked out by a guy named Doc Brown?
As a general rule, don't post online when you're going on vacation and for how long.

But seeing as you already have, what were the last 4 digits of your SSN again? I forgot.

I'm not a huge fan of older jazz (like 30's to 40's I guess) but I heard some great songs on that station. Mostly overnight.

Jazz was invented by Black and White musicians of the ‘30s-‘40s, here and in Europe. Django Reinhardt and Steven Grappeli (sp.?) , Louis Armstrong, etc are among the great names in Jazz. My husband collected every album, and cassette, even contacted dealers in England to obtain every recording possible.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s no wonder you think the way you do. Pure ignorance.

I definitely had teachers in high school who I would not have trusted with a gun. My freshman algebra teacher would going into screaming rages and throw chalk at us. He was fired Spring Quarter when he punched a girl in the face.
