Squirrels Eating Tomatoes

I previously tried bone meal, predator scent, chili pepper powder, aluminum foil strips. The ONLY thing that worked for me was the cage.

I have a neighbor who traps and drowns them, but I would just as soon live with farmers market tomatoes!

That's really disturbing....

How do you trap and drown tomatoes?

Mine are also being eaten despite elaborate barriers. Also I am not clear how a squirrel could have eaten some of the one they have gotten while leaving much of the tomato on the vine. Could the problem be slugs? Has anyone tried the beer method. Would also satisfy the fluid issues for the squirrels if that is really the issue.

Ok, I always thought it was a squirrel issue, but sometimes its really high up - do birds have a go at them as well if seeking water/thirsty? Its been an outright war with my garden this year. I used to be able to leave tomatoes on table on deck by house to ripen, but someone in less that 1/2 hour got to every single one with either small marks or bites. Its like goldilocks trying every bowl before settling on one to eat...

And the comment on trap and drown is creepy....and in that way many slow down at an accident, also weirdly curious how one does that...although my spouse maintains they are just larger mice, and no qualms with trap and kill...
