Springsteen Tour Dates Announced archived

Posted By: Olympic BobAgain, I'm a fan and I've listened for a week ... This one blows.
:fierce:

I'm getting six-pack and putting on "The River" ...

Well, we all have different opinions.

I've been listening to it for a week, and it sounds great and is sounding better.

I remember when "The River" came out, and some people thought some of the songs sounded "unfinished", and were wondering what the heck was up with "Hungry Heart".

But it was filled with the stories, of the characters in the songs. Some of the songs seemed to be continuations, of the stories from earlier albums. Others were new stories, about new characters.

"Magic" seems like the continuation of the stories, of characters glimpsed in past albums. And, it also rocks, imho.

Anyway, tonight we're going to hear the stories, and the storyteller, live.

Anybody else going tonight?

"Is there anybody alive out there?"

I'm looking forward to hearing this material on the live album that he will surely put out to correct Magic's absolutely atrocious sound. There are some great songs on there, but you can't hear them! I'm certain the public outcry (Rolling Stone's wishful-thinking five-star review notwithstanding) will convince him to atone with a well-recorded live set.

Frank may be right, but we're in the building right now, and I'm on line for a Brooklyn Brewery draft. We're soon going to hear how this one sounds live.

Bruce was on VH1 Classic just now ... Being interviewed by Dave Marsh ... Springsteen said, something to the effect, something about making records being less stressful, less of a chore, how this took a month or so ... I think that aspect is missing from much of his recent work ... Nothing left to prove and no new ground to cover ...

Springsteen also mentioned that, not only wasn't the band essembled at the same time, he wasn't present when Steve and Nils and others laid down their tracks ... Again, not how he'd do things in the past ...

Personally, I'm happy for the guy ... Balance, work, family ... But the end results, the art, is not as good as it's been ...

Having said all that, I'm still trying to get tickets for MSG next week.

I found the new songs to have much more power live, although I'm enjoying the album cuts as well. The show last Sat. in Philly was simply amazing. If you can get a boot of the show, you'll hear how they rev up onstage.

Speaking of onstage, the blues-ed out version of Reason to Believe really kicks some butt. It's upbeat with a bit of a ZZ Top-style LaGrange riff, but the overall melody has stayed the same, so you can actually recognize the song (far from what he did with it on the Devils&Dust solo tour).

And Olympic Bob...Eddie and the Cruisers?? For shame.

And for my last non sequiter...I caught the Clarence Clemons/Jackson Browne "You're a Friend of Mine" video on VH1 Classic the other day. Oh man...how'd that ever get on the air?
