Springsteen to tour ... archived

Listening to on-line samples ... I LIKE Jack of All Trades ... And I thought Easy Money was pretty good too ... Cautiously optimistic. Cautiously ...

I've been listening to the whole album since this weekend and it is very diverse. There are some classic all out rockers (Wrecking Ball, Land of Hope and Dreams, We Take Care of Our Own), some "foot stomping" songs that sound straight off of the Seeger Sessions (Death to My Hometown, Shackled and Drawn), some soul-inspired music (Rocky Ground) and some "just OK" songs that are great lyrically, but pretty bland musically (Jack of All Trades, This Depression and We Are Alive). It's certainly no "Darkness", but it has many more keepers than "Working on a Dream" did.

After listening a few times, I've decided that Rocky Ground and We Are Alive are my favorites. The only one I really dont like is You've Got It. I'm kind of excited to hear the live E Street versions.

Listened to Death To My Hometown ... I like to idea of the song, but I kind of feel the production and the "Irish-ness" of it all gets a little in the way ... I'll give it a B- ...

Stupid question, but where can this album be found online? Cursory searching has turned up "We Take Care of Our Own" only.

Backstreets.com is posting links to hear a track a day ... That's what I've been listening to.

the album is available on torrents

This album really doesn't sound angry.
It's more stompy.

It's better than the last one, though.

I'm excited to see him in Newark.

Ok so it sounds much better through my car speakers than my crappy laptop speaker

So I listened to the stream of the whole album the other night, from "BruceSpringsteen.net".

I like it, I'm getting it. But it made me think of myself years ago. In the summer of 1978, we were waiting for the new Springsteen album which was "delayed" due to contract nonsense. The day "Darkness on the Edge of Town" came out, the dj on WNEW took the record out of the sleeve, and played the whole thing straight through that night, with only a pause to flip the record over.

Anyone who is puzzled by the words "record", "sleeve", and "flip", well that was the way the world was at one time. ;-)

Anyway, I recorded it on this silly little tape player I had, and listened to it until I could get out to a "record store", and buy the album.

And nearly 34 years later, I'm streaming an album on the internet, until I get around to ordering it online. Am I old?

Thanks for your support!

I will say that I will try to remain, "ready to grow young again", as the song goes ...

I think Bruce would be pretty good at the Rent Party. You might want to look into this, Chris.

We've contacted his people. I would like to point out that Rent Party alums Willie Nile, Garland Jeffrie and James Maddock were ALL on stage with Bruce at this year's Light of Day concert ...

Does anyone know how many la-la songs are on the album?

Anyone else listen to the Apollo show? WOW!

There's video of at least one song from the Apollo show at -

http://brucespringsteen.net/

- but it may not be there long.

Spent the day with Bruce ... Well, not literally ... Spent the day listening to the new record ... I don't hate it. There's a couple of keepers ... I've warmed up to We Take Care of Our Own ... Love Rocky Ground ... Nice to hear Land of Hope and Dream and Wrecking Ball, but, well, they're retreads ... Same with American Land ... I think the new record has a lot of redeeming qualities ... And I'm sure the tunes will all be better live ... All in all, not The Rising, but not the last three duds ... PS. Since we're open to recycling: How about a studio verions of Freehold?

I haven't read all the reviews, but I think it's interesting that no one's talking a lot about the overtly Christian slant/imagery of the album ...

So it all begins tonight...

Here's my prediction (based on the 2 warm-ups) for the set list tonight...

1. We Take Care of Our Own
2. Wrecking Ball
3. Badlands
4. Death To My Hometown
5.Prove It All Night
6. My City of Ruins
7. State Trooper
8. Blinded By the Light
9. The E Street Shuffle
10. Jack of All Trades
11. Shackled and Drawn
12. Waitin' on a Sunny Day (unfortunately)
13. The Promised Land
14. She's The One
15. Mansion on the Hill
16. Youngstown

20. Thunder Road
(encore break)
21. Rocky Ground
22. Land of Hope and Dreams
23. Born To Run
24. 10th Avenue Freeze-Out
25. Rosalita

A couple long shots in there but had to make it interesting...

eta...changed a couple songs

Opening Night ...

We Take Care of Our Own
Wrecking Ball
Badlands
Death to My Hometown
My City of Ruins
The E Street Shuffle
Jack of All Trades
Seeds
Easy Money
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
The Promised Land
Apollo Medley (The Way You Do The Things You Do/634-5789)

He swapped out Lonesome Day and American Land for Because The Night and Rosalita tonight in Greensboro. Any time he leaves out American Land is good for me. I'm excited to see the show March 29 in Philly and Apr 9 in NYC.

Love the inclusion of Seeds ...

So far not a terrible set list. I still have to listen to the entire new album.

Last time I saw him (a couple of shows in 2009) he did nothing at all from Magic. It's the forgotten album. ;-)

There was a news report today to the effect that Mr. Springsteen was not planning on being personally involved in campaigning, the way he was in 2004 and 2008.

But he's doing it, with his album and his choice of songs from his back pages. "Seeds", fer cryin' out loud!

Oh yeah, I'm all for Seeds.

Anyone make either of the Philly shows? I was there last night and it was truly incredible. I am quite surprised at how good Jake Clemons is. What a ridiculously tough spot to be put in and he's really nailing Clarence's parts. The crowd really got into Trapped and Darkness. Absolutely epic Kitty's Back. The new material comes off really well live. Don't miss this.

Here's the setlist:

We Take Care of Our Own
Wrecking Ball
Night
Death to My Hometown
My City of Ruins
Thundercrack
Jack of All Trades
Trapped
Easy Money
Prove It All Night
Darkness on the Edge of Town
Waitin' on a Sunny Day
The Promised Land
Apollo Medley
Streets of Philadelphia
The Rising
We Are Alive
Thunder Road
* * *
Rocky Ground (with Michelle Moore)
Kitty's Back
Born to Run
Dancing in the Dark
Tenth Avenue Freeze-out

I'll also add that it was quite odd to see Gov. Christie really into the show – fist pumps and all – while knowing he's on the opposite side of most of Bruce's messages. A bit of dissonance there.

Your description of the Governor sort of explains, I believe. He likes the "fist pump" songs, but there are songs and themes which for which he has stated his disagreement (he's stated that he's not a fan of, "Nobody wins unless everybody wins", a tag line used for a long time).

Apparently The Boss went into the crowd last night ,sang with them & chugged someones beer . Then returned to the stage.
