Springsteen. Giants Stadium. Full Albums Played. Discuss. archived

Definitely agree that "Meeting Across the River" was a highlight. 'Cause this guy don't dance.

Crystal Taliferro played the sax when he toured with Shane Fontayne, Tommy Sims, etc.

However, during that period, I saw a food bank benefit at the arena and during the key line of "Tenth Avenue," the Big Man indeed joined the band. I don't know if my friend's neck has ever recovered from my grabbing him as I saw Clarence climbing the steps to the stage.

Thanks. And thanks for the reminder of "Shane Fontayne" (those were the dark years, for sure ...)

Now that is a great memory!

On recent listen to a few of the songs from that era, they weren't that bad. And the tour was fun, even if it wasn't E Street. Not that I'm suggesting a reunion.

He did Meeting into Jungleland when I saw him back in '03 at Giants Stadium (#2, I think). It was epic.

What would make me blow any last remaining dollars I have would be if he decided to do a side of The River. Either one.

Oh, I agree with you on that. I think that the "Lucky Town" album is the autobiography that he hasn't otherwise written, yet.

Before he sang "Local Hero" He would tell the story of when he went back to Freehold and saw his poster in a local store. The girl who worked there had no idea who he was.

I was driving through my hometown
I was just kinda killin' time
When I seen a face staring out of
a black velvet painting
From the window of the five and dime
I couldn't quite recall the name
But the pose looked familiar to me
So I asked the salesgirl "Who was that man
Between the doberman and Bruce Lee?"
She said "Just a local hero"
"Local hero" she said with a smile
"Yeah a local hero he used to
live here for a while"

Exactly. That's why I like that song, and that album. I have a "bootleg" of his performance at his old school, St. Rose of Lima, for a benefit years ago, where he talks about that. I think that image of seeing himself immortalized in a "black velvet painting" has the ring of truth.

That Freehold show was very cool ... I'd love to see an "official" version of "Freehold" some day ... Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it got played at GS ...

"Lucky Town" has a handful of good tracks. "Better Days" and "Leap of Faith" are songs that would be great to hear at these GS shows, along with "Local Hero."

Human Touch was almost unlistenable ... But, yeah, those tunes would be great to hear!

I'm really looking forward to Saturday AND I've been invited to the very, very exclusive Vandalay tail-gate party ... Champagne wishes and caviar dreams!!

Posted By: wharfratSo Nohero, are the 10/3 tickets still available?
I have a pair...

Too tired to go into much detail, but tonight's show was epic. Darkness was everything I'd hoped for. The requests were great. They sounded awesome. And I was in covered seats so I didn't get wet. Not a bad way to spend an evening!

For those who made it to the show Saturday night - was that something, or what? Even though "Born in the USA" would not have been my first choice for hearing a whole album in concert, all the songs were great. It also didn't hurt that the show seemed extra-long, with about 28 songs in it (including a long, jazzy "Kitty's Back").

And early in the show, "Hungry Heart" with a long "crowd surf" across the top of the General Admission pen back up to the stage. It starts around 2:40 in this video.

Incredible concert! Loved it! Fireworks were a nice surprise too!

Went Wednesday and last night ... Wednesday was a 10, last night was an 8.5 ... The Born in the USA tunes were great to hear in that setting. They we're built for that. I thought the energy level wasn't the same as Wednesday ... Opening night vs. the middle gig and playing back to back shows might be a factor ... I thoughts the sets were stronger on Wednesday. Look, Bruce at 8.5 is better than anyone else on any day ... Turned out to be a beautiful night weatherwise ... Many thanks to the Vandalay tail-gate party folks ... Lots of fun. Nice to run into some Maplewood neighbors before and after the show ...

My pleasure , Soul, thanks for bringing Baggo. Without further adieu , how about a song by song breakdown.

Wrecking Ball ..perfect song to start the night and let people know to get their arses in their seats
Out in the Street..this song kicks it every time
Outlaw Pete...still can't stand this song. I rank it a notch above Pony Boy
Hungry Heart..always good for a sing-along, and the crowd surf was the highlight (see Nohero above)
Working on a Dream...obligatory performance of newest title track
Born in the U.S.A...clear, strong vocals. Consummate stadium anthem
Cover Me... a mostly pedestrian song
Darlington County...just a great song both studio and live
Working on the Highway...underrated on the album, one of the best numbers of the night.
Downbound Train..always consistent
I'm on Fire...nice little number
No Surrender..starts the meat of the BITHUSA order..I was calling for acoustic version never happened
Bobby Jean...keeps the rally going
I'm Goin' Down...still scoring...crowd is singing every word.
Glory Days..overplayed on the radio , great in concert
Dancing in the Dark..been there done that, but nice version with a 13th birthday gift for the dance partner.
My Hometown...perfect way slow things up and end the album.
The Promised Land...freakin' love that song
Last to Die..no need , this song brought the crowd down. My whole section sat down.
Long Walk Home..terrific song, but it didn't get the crowd up after Last to Die. Magic has stronger songs.
The Rising..one of my favorite songs, but this version was sloppy. Organ was out of place and background vocals were off. I have seen him kill this song. Not tonight.
Born to Run...heard this song performed countless times. One of his best tonight.
Jersey Girl...perfect song for a Saturday in Jersey. One of our tailgaters was very happy.
* * *
Kitty's Back..other than casual fans around us saying, "whats Kitty' Back" , this song rocked with an awesome trumpet.
Detroit Medley..how can you not like this song live. It takes alot of energy and he was still going strong
American Land...Ok I get it, you have a fiddle player and you need to use her.
Waitin' on a Sunny Day..after a too long American Land , this song got the crowd singing.
Thunder Road...going out strong.

Agree with Soul. Nice weather, great tailgate, and a 8.5/10 Bruce show. I'm back on Thursday.

I'm selling two tickets for Thursday 10/8 in Sec. 319, Row 2. Bruce will play the album Born to Run in its entirety in the middle of the show. I'll take $100 for the pair, well below face value. Post or whisper if you're interested.

Where's Patty been? We were there on Saturday and he made no mention of her.

If anyone needs tickets to the final show this fri, let me know. I have a friend who has some extras. Upper section.

Fan-freakin-tastic. Of course it was my first time ever, so I wouldn't have anything to compare it to, but I had a great, great time. And what about those three little girls he pulled up on stage? What a night and what a story for the rest of their lives! Love that he's so down in the crowd, and was completely blown away when he got down on the floor, with the crowd! Then they passed him back up on stage! Loved it!

Just wish someone would have handed out a program outlining the appropriate hand motions for each song and at what point in the song said hand motions should be used!!!

And FWIW, I loved the Magic songs. Wish he had done "Girls in their Summer Clothes."

And "Jersey Girl!" "Down the shore everything's alright....................." Oh, lordy man, you got that right! And talk about nostalgic!

Amazing, amazing, amazing that he can keep it up for almost three straight hours without a break!! And at 60!!!

Hopefully Bruce and I will be around for many years to come, and "we" can do this again!

We had a great time too and enjoyed bringing our 13 year-old along for the ride. He loved it!!

She wasn't there on Wednesday night, either (much to my delight). Bruce made no mention of her until the very end, when he gave her a shout-out, dedicated "Rosalita" to her, and said something to the effect of she'll there on Friday.

It's probably too much to hope that she's absent again Thursday night.

(Can you tell I am not a Patti fan?)

You know if he's going to copy Steele Dan, by doing full albums ,then do Wild & The Innocent . Steely Dan did Cheap Thrills. Thank God Linda , er I mean Patty wasn't there.

Springsteen copying Steely Dan ... Yeah, that happens a lot. Born in the USA is almost a note for note rip-off of Aja ...Springsteen did Born to Run in its entirety on May 7, 2008 at The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank ... I think Steely Dan just started doing albums (I still call them albums!) on this tour ...

Vandalay: Great review ... I want to plan a Courter VS. Kendall Baggo tournament!!

The Who were doing "Tommy" in its entirety in 1969.

If he is going to do albums , I would go see him do WI / E-St . Not BTR . Like I said SD is doing various albums , including early stuff like Cheap Thrills. The May 7th show was a charity event , it was interesting & catchy to do the album , they were not on tour @ that point & it was easy to set up. Tommy was a R O C K opera . This is not a knock on the Boss , well maybe Patty , but what I would prefer.

BTW , Lou Reed is doing this on his tour. Full Albums.

The Fab Faux have been doing albums in their entirety for years. I think Steely Dan is ripping off the Faux...

Cheap Thrills?

The first band I can recall doing albums in their entirety was Pink Floyd..Ive got a bootleg Dark Side of the Moon live from way back and of course then they did The Wall live. There is a trend of many many bands and artists performing albums in their entirety...I suppose its as good as the performers and the original material. Lenny Kravitz is doing an album show, The Cult is doing an album show...I think anyone who has an album is considering doing an album show...I only have photo albums. I have mixed feelings about seeing "Born In The USA" performed in its entirety...its taking away possible other songs Id love to see performed. By the way, I wouldnt have minded seeing "Cant Buy A Thrill", but "Katy Lied" is the one I really am sorry I missed.

I'd love to see Wild, Innocent as well, but I don't see it as something most fans would get. Rosalita and Sandy are probably the two that everyone knows from that album. He only rarely plays Incident or Kitty's Back, and I'm not sure he's played NY Serenade since the reunion tour (which was awesome). Also, I think he trying to celebrate the core of the E Street Band, and BTR, Darkness and BITUSA are prime examples. Max, Roy, Garry, Steve, Clarence, Danny. That core band came together during BTR (when Max, Roy and Steve joined).

I'm also not holding out hope for a side of The River, as it doesn't really have the same consistent emotional weight of the other 3 albums he's doing. But it would be a heck of a lot of fun to see.

I was hoping for Nebraska, but it's not exactly a stadium album
