Speaking of Soapboxes: PEN's New Report on Free Speech

Though only halfway through it, I'm impressed so far by how it lays out the issues, which focus on conflicts at colleges but apply to other topics and their tensions, on MOL and in daily life, as well:

And Campus for All: Diversity, Inclusion, and Freedom of Speech at U.S. Universities

Thanks for posting -- looks like it's worth a read.

I'll have to read the entire study later. But I took note of these points made in the summary:

• While free speech is alive and
well on campus, it is not free from
threats, and must be vigilantly
guarded if its continued strength
is to be assured.
• While current campus controversies
merit attention and there have
been some troubling instances of
speech curtailed, these do not represent
a pervasive “crisis” for free
speech on campus.

The next time someone starts going on and on about free speech being dead on campuses, we can point them to this study. Unfortunately the typical person who goes on and on about "PC" run amok is also usually immune to facts or data or research. They usually prefer to argue via anecdote.
