Inaugural SOMA Film Festival
I started seeing flyers and billboards advertising this thing at the train station last week and thought, Wow, how cool is that! I'm going to have to tell my daughter about it! (Because she's interested in a career in media.)
Little did I know that her animation teacher at CHS had submitted two of her pieces--one an animated short, the other a film made with her friends in acting roles--to the festival's student work category, which features nine pieces overall.
Both were accepted, and thus I advertise not only out of general amazement and pride that our community has staked out some territory the cinematic arts (about time!), but also out of banal, mommish pride.
