I no longer live in the area, but I still donate blood frequently. Sometimes I donate platelets or white blood cells. Please consider doing this. It's a way of charitable giving that costs you no money, just time. It's safe, and it's almost completely painless. Some people feel weak after donation, but many don't. I've never felt a thing. In fact, I disobey orders and I take a bike ride after donating. That's not a good idea, but the point is that you won't necessarily suffer at all.
