Sliding door

Hello all,

We are planning for a quick kitchen renovation. Our kitchen door is worn out and it is looking very bad. So along with the renovation, we'll be replacing our door and windows with the help of an replacement windows and doors service. We have a garden in our backyard, so my husband gave an idea of installing a door through which we can see our garden. I really liked that idea because such a door will allow sunlight in the kitchen and will make our kitchen look bright. Will a sliding door be perfect for this?? I just now read an article about the benefits of sliding door and it seems to be perfect. But I would like to ask your suggestions regarding your experiences. I asked my husband, but he too doesn't have much idea about a sliding door. Is anyone here using the sliding door in your home?? If yes, please give your opinions on this. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I don't like them, I would never feel safe. anyway you can do a set of double doors, wooden doors on the outside that swing open (and you can leave open during the day) and then sliding doors inside?

We have a sliding door on the back of our house. I do like that it lets in a lot of sunlight. In the summer it is nice to have the screen open. Our sliding door is from our deck to our family room. The kitchen, which is also on the back of the house, has a regular door. Will you have both for your kitchen?

We've had sliding doors for the kind of location you are considering, and I've enjoyed the convenience and light, though for looks I would prefer French doors.

Do make sure to get a good quality door and surround, and hire a skilled installer, though. Cheap doors will make you nuts going off the tracks. And if not installed properly, the (presumably double) glass will lose its seal and get all foggy inside: the opening must match the door just so.

Enjoy the view!

The opening required for a slider is pretty large. After all the slider has to go some where. I would try to find a "storm' door with full glass-- make sure you get suitable hardware.

We replaced a large window in our dining room with beautiful French doors and love the extra light and view of the yard.

Our kitchen is too small for a double slider or French doors, but we did bring in more light by replacing the prior exit door with one with a half panel of windows (four over four). This new door is better insulated with sturdy locks. We also reversed the door to open into the small enclosed porch (more room now in the kitchen) and installed a fresh storm door with a larger window area and better lock. End result: more light, warmer kitchen and better security. Good luck with your remodel.

We had a sliding door that stopped working. Made me crazy. I hate them.

Now have french doors, which let in loads o light. Don't go cheap.

Agree. Don't go cheap. You want a product that will stand the test of time.
