Shortages

Stop & Shop didn't have any Philly Cream Cheese.

ShopRite Essex Green had some bars of their own cream cheese and some Philly cream cheese. There were only a few flavored tubs though.

I ended up buying a bar of neufchatel, which I don't think I've had before.

Meanwhile, Junior's Cheesecake is having a tough time.

Shoprite Millburn hadn't been able to get any Temptee Cream Chesse for a long time. I was there Weds. and they had some. Temptee Cream Cheese is a cult classic.

"You can’t stuff a cheese blintz without it. It’s the vital ingredient in rugelach dough. It inspires allegiances (see the cult classic Temptee) as well as mutiny (ugh, tofu cream cheese). It’s a natural mate for lox, the ultimate Ashkenazi delicacy. When slathered on a bagel, it’s what much of the world, for better or worse, thinks of as Jewish food. Though cream cheese is an American invention, it was put to best culinary use by Jewish immigrants, who, according to the food historian Gil Marks, swapped in the thick, tangy dairy product for pot cheese in traditional Eastern European recipes. But since Breakstone and Philadelphia were not the curd cheese of the old country, cream cheese was also the catalyst for some key Jewish-American innovations, most notably the New York-style cheesecake. Like the enterprising Jews who raised the ingredient to lofty heights, it’s eminently adaptable—maybe even too adaptable, as anyone who’s ever grimaced at Oreo or jalapeño cheese knows."

Plenty of Philly Cream cheese here, so must have manufacturer out here in Asia or Australia.

No shortage of Vegan Cream Cheese.

I don’t know about NJ but there’s plenty of tonic water here in MA. Still no Yes! tomato soup in the microwave cups.

In SC, I'm finding an almost total shortage of tonic water, especially in the 2L bottles. Any available in NJ?

The wife shopped at Millburn Shoprite today and there was no lack of cream cheese.

Yeah, it looks like cream cheese has recovered.

Crisis averted!

Booster and a schmear

I have to wonder if it’s as simple as cream cheese became the new toilet paper. People hoarded (as much as you can “hoard” something with a fairly short shelf life). Then they realized they didn’t need to hoard, so it was seen on shelves again. I have not tried to buy any, so I have no first hand experience with the supposed shortage.

Kraft will pay you $20 not to make cheesecake…

i am getting the voucher, but it just says I'll get a digital reward for getting an alternate dessert...for all I know is that $20 in coupons for cream cheese I will never use....would be nice to know before I put the money out on a cake.

Bagged salads were in short supply at stop and shop today.

Nilla Wafers...was a favorite as a kid, got an urge, but can't find them

A little pricey - but if you really need them:

I'll keep my eyes out for them locally!

I think my shoprite had a sign up about Nabisco supply problems.

Target has them for $4.99 - but only for shipping, not available at any local store. If you can put together a $35 Target order you can get them without paying shipping costs.

Target shipping has been my secret source for a couple of things I've had a hard time finding elsewhere - not saying which things as I don't want all of youse to to be edging in on my supply. cheese The big downside is that a lot of things won't ship at all unless you have at least $35 worth of stuff in your cart. That's also the threshold for free shipping.

IIRC: The closest Target that seems to have decent stock (so that you can do order online & pickup at store) is Parsippany.

For Target if you have their “Red” credit card shipping is alway free I believe and you get 5% off of every purchase. I shop target a good amount so this is one of the few store cc’s I use.

don't want the cookies bad enough to ship....i only ship as an absolute last resort when its something i really need and can't find it local....worrying about porch pirates stresses me out...and i have severe health problems and never know when I will be able to get out to an amazon hub or ups store to pick up....with in store, I can just go when I feel up to it....i have a recipe that will make a vanilla cookie out of cupcake mix...didn't the nabisco factory in fair lawn shut down recently?

FWIW: The more natural 'Vanilla Wafers' at Whole Foods has a very different taste/texture, and no one in my family would eat them. So, I don't recommend that as a replacement.

Midday Saturday at Stop & Shop in SO, the cereal shelves were wiped out.

Shoprite has no rice crispies. Brand name or store brand.

Couldn't get any chicken thighs, boneless nor bone-in, at Shoprite in Livingston yesterday around 5.

How about this - CVS can't get my blood pressure medication. Doctor has to come up with a substitute.

yeah, I've got a med that has been back ordered for my last 2 prescriptions for it, though I think it's just due to unexpected popularity (it was just released recently)

and FWIW, I have to wait 6 weeks to get a new cpap.

There was a lot in Essex Green ShopRite, but I only saw the organic selection.
