A Drumpf surrogate suggests that Democrats may be behind JCC threats:

"It's not yet clear who the #JCC offenders are. Don't forget @TheDemocrats effort to incite violence at Drumpf rallies"

Trump told a group of state attorney's generals today that attacks are sometimes carried out "in the reverse" in order to "make people - or to make others - look bad."

"Asked about a wave of recent anti-Semitic attacks, President Donald Trump told a group of state attorneys general on Tuesday that attacks are sometimes carried out in "the reverse" in order "to make people — or to make others — look bad," according to Democratic Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, who was at the meeting.
"He just said, 'Sometimes it's the reverse, to make people — or to make others — look bad,' and he used the word 'reverse' I would say two or three times in his comments," Shapiro said, according to BuzzFeed. "He did say at the top that it was reprehensible."
The Democratic National Committee responded to Trump's reported remarks, condemning what it considered to be Trump's "questioning" the "legitimacy of JCC threats."
"For millennia, Jews have not only endured unthinkable violence, but the subsequent denial of that violence," DNC spokesman Eric Walker said in a statement. "For the president of the United States to insinuate that threats to Jewish community centers are illegitimate is truly beyond the pale."

The FBI is investigating an apparent bullet hole in the window of an Evansville, Indiana synagogue.

Four mosques have burned in seven weeks. Hate is non-discriminatory.

“We’ve never seen four mosques burned within seven weeks of each other,” said Mark Potok, a senior fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups around the country. “It’s part of a whole series of dramatic attacks on Muslims.”

“He [Trump]just said, ‘Sometimes it's the reverse, to make people, or to make others, look bad,’” Shapiro, a Democrat, said, repeating Trump’s alleged response to questions during the meeting about the large number of bomb threats against Jewish community centers in recent months.

Yes, kind of like the Reichstag fire.

I was hoping some Trump supporter could reassure the Indian community following the Olathe, Kansas killings by pointing out that it was an honest mistake - Parrinton thought they were Iranians, he wasn't targeting Indians.

For me, that's the scariest Trump response to the rise in anti-semitism. WTF?

I guess when neo-Nazis are one of your constituencies, you don't want to get out on a limb and demean them.

Is the KKK organized enough to be behind organizing the desecrations and JCC bomb threats?

It's time for Trump or Pence to visit a Mosque that's been attacked as well as a JCC or Synagogue

And risk offending some of his most loyal followers?

His "most loyal" followers would support him even if he converted to Islam, but I'll concede that those a little less than "most loyal" would not be happy.

Like Trump, white nationalists and neo-Nazis also claim that people other than anti-Semites may be behind the anti-Semitic incidents. They just think it’s Jewish people themselves.

“When I see these bomb threats, I just assume it is Jews doing it,” Andrew Anglin, founder of the neo-Nazi Daily Stormer website — who has also argued that the Holocaust is a hoax — wrote on his blog last week. Former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke sent a tweet that implied the same. Richard Spencer, a prominent white nationalist, told HuffPost on Monday that he “seriously” doubts that the person or people behind the threats supports white nationalism, because making those threats only hurts their cause.

Conservative conspiracy theorists appear to share Trump’s theory about political opponents being involved. Mike Cernovich, a Twitter personality who has spread conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton’s health, blamed the left for funding the “false flag threats” in a tweet on Monday. Anthony Scaramucci, a financier whom Trump once planned to appoint as an adviser, also suggested that Democrats may be behind the threats. He later said that he wasn’t blaming Democrats, just noting that “no one knows yet” who’s behind the phone calls.

Real “hoax” and “false flag” hate crimes are rare. “Hoaxes have become symbols for some who want to promote the idea that most hate crimes are hoaxes,” Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino, told Talking Points Memo in December.

Read that calls may be coming from abroad. Any more news on that?

Some reports say that the calls are coming from both within the US and abroad.

The suggestion that Jews are drawing the swastikas is very upsetting.

The only thing I can think of that discredited the right wingnut faction in this country was the Oklahoma City bombing which was, as we all know, perpetrated by one of their own.

There are no plausible scenarios in America where demonized groups would benefit from staging hate crimes against themselves.

He's just throwing a bone to the more vulgar parts of his base. He knows damn well that it's not Jews doing this.

Cramer - I didn't realize it was so coordinated. That is very troubling.

It feeds their narrative that the Jews love to play the victim.

"A U.S. law enforcement official says the threatening phone calls to Jewish community centers appear to be coordinated. The calls range from individuals phoning in bomb threats to “robo calls,” which are either machine-generated voice threats or recordings. It appears the calls are coming from both within the U.S. and from overseas."

The FBI has arrested a man in Missouri for allegedly making eight of the bomb threats to JCC's.

He made the threats using the name of his ex-girlfriend in order to harass her. ,He made some of the threats in his own name in order to show that his ex-girlfriend was harassing him.

8 of 100 calls. Sounds like he could be copy-catting. I still wonder if the calls and the desecrations are linked.

As an aside, the first vandalized cemetery was also in St. Louis.

FBI so far saying "at least". Hopefully he's "the guy" and it's more than that.

Whatever his broader motive (and who knows what that is with nuts- maybe we'll find out maybe we won't) apparently he tried to direct law enforcement to his ex girlfriend.

So that's nice. Frighten and enrage millions over your inability to handle a disappointing relationship.

Re: the south mountain graffiti- I've looked for it but I just can't recall where I saw the article- but some crazy high percentage of racist graffiti of all stripes when the perps are caught turn out to have nothing to do with racist organizations and are, as others have suggested, incredibly stupid adolescents.

Not to minimize the offense, but perhaps to ratchet down any anxiety people feel, concerned that some sort of skinhead gang is in the area: sure, it's possible, but prior incidents would suggest it's pretty unlikely.
