Sbenois PAC brings You Day Three; With CFA Converted, Who's Next? archived

Vince McMahon was apparently called.

No praise from Obama for CFA.

Ass-kissing moment for Bill Clinton. Nice!

Invesco is upset he called it mile high stadium.

Between that and Bill's "fabulous wife Jill" leer, she's getting a lot of attention. I think he kissed Joe too.

"Change doesn't start from the top up, ugh, bottom up'

Republicans have their new "The One" commercial.

Cheap attempt to secure Nohero's vote with the playing of The Rising.

Howard Dean sighting. He looked like he was ready to mail out some more anthrax.

Oh yeah, they found the guy who did that.

Right?

Good for him to point out the humble "Take America Back" idea, which is what inspired everyone to begin with before he became bigger than life.

"We are family, I got all my sisters with me."

Those sisters must include Biden, Bill, Kerry, Dean, etc.

libs.

We are the "Mommy Party" after all.

I think the planned grandiosity of tommorow night's festivities (mega stadium, Greek Temple backdrop) is a misstep, will give the Repubs a lot more fodder for those mocking "Anointed One" ads.

Paging Leni Riefenstahl......

My man Joe delivered! And Beau wasn't half bad either. Delaware ROCKS!

Maybe. They've been trying so hard (and succeeding to some degree) to make Obama connect with Americans of humble means on a personal level, and when it comes his time to speak they're going to take it outside and put on a mega-rock show. Not sure if that's going to work.

Should Obama wear a toga tomorrow?

I'm on vacation, but I received an alert from that "MOL Premium" service that my screen-name was taken in vain.

This is just a continuation of Springsteen fans being nominated to high office. It's not pandering, it's just a nod to reality.

Oh, and all the anti-Obama arguments on the political threads this week aren't even good enough to be called "lame".

Carry on ... :peace:

I wish I was at home for the whole commentary in real time. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IN!!!!!

Commentators (black commentators) are pointing out how Bill Clinton, the man unfairly labeled a racist during the campaign, is the ONLY one brave enough to come out and say that race and ethnicity are NOT a liability but rather one of THE reasons why Obama is best equipped to lead a diverse America in 2008.

And only Nixon could go to China.

Thank goodness college football starts this weekend...all these egomaniacs are driving me crazy..get off my tv!

Good...

Day 3 was a good day at the convention. It looks like s tuned in too late to see the actual voting, and see how when it got to the New York delegation, Hillary was there to request an end to the voting and that the convention unanimously nominate Barack Obama.

It was good theater. Well done, many people in the crowd in tears.

The speeches were good, not excellent. Clinton received a fantastic ovation that embarrassed him. His speech was very good and sbenois, I think you should look at these speeches on cspan to get the actual audio without the crowd being filtered through the network sound systems. It was loud.

Clintons speech was on point and while he did acknowledge that Obama was not his candidate, he was going to support him because he is the best candidate.

Kerry's speech had some moments, the crowd was into it. The Biden spoke and he was very good. The problem with all of the speeches by these senators is that they know McCain personally. The gloves were definitely on as they made sure they attacked his policies not his character or him personally. What are the chances that the republicans do the same with Obama next week?

Well... the convention worked on me. I'm now happy with the Biden choice, I think the Clinton's did their part--though I still detect a shrewd calculus ("hey, we played along back in 2008"), my fingers are crossed that McCain does pick Lieberman. These things--conventions--aren't for the other side, they're to get people like me to write a check so that the vote gets out in November.

Hoops wondered if the GOPers will keep their gloves on and only focus on policy... um... no, they won't. But, hopefully, that could play into Dem hands. It should offer a contrast. Yet, the average voter in the US seems sadly unable to grasp that. The basic question that B. Clinton delivered should be the focal point: Do you want another 4 years of a republican presidency after the past 8 (6 of which featured a republican congress/senate)?

Next week, the most I hope for is for some serious, raucous protesting from my home state brethren. I'm keeping my eye on the weekly airline deals and making sure my bandana is cleaned and pressed.

Bill was excellent. His points are going to get driven home in the coming weeks when the Clintons campaign with Obama around the country.

I think Bill was more disappointed with himself in the wake of the primaries than anything else. He promised Hillary the candidacy and he couldn't deliver it for her, the first time in a real long time that he experienced defeat. It was a humbling experience for him, and he didn't take it well. The crowd's reaction to him last night renewed his sense of being loved, being in the spotlight. He'll surely be out on the campaign trail delivering for Obama, where Hillary has assured herself Attorney General, or nearly any position she might want, and Bill cements his legacy as the party's patriarch, partnering with an Obama administration to achieve nearly anything he could want though his Global Initiative. Any one who thinks you can't have an influence and be incredibly powerful outside of politics need only to look at Al Gore (btw...where has he been this week?) Bill knows this.

Bill and Hillary's genuine admiration of Joe Biden came through, and Bill used Obama's choice of Biden for VP as the impetus for his change of heart about an Obama administration. If it wasn't genuine, he deserves an Oscar.

Biden is primed to mop the floor with the Republicans over the next two months.

I think the convention, and the ticket, will work for a lot of Democrats, and some swing voters. It's fun to parse the performances here, and certainly at the Republican version. And its always fun to be cynical. But I really think that this ticket can, and will, win in November. And I think that so far, the major speeches at the DNC have proved it, despite some of the airheaded planning, green nonsense, and Hollywoodeness.

For a lot of non-NYC, middle aged moderate Democratic types, Hillary remained a questionable choice, not as questionable as Kerry, but a begrudged, better-than-Republican choice. A gifted technician with no spark and a questionable trail. And, early days, faced with Hillary and McCain, McCain had been viewed by a lot of us as not the worst thing that could happen so long as he stayed apart from the Republican center and GWB. But McCain moved ever closer to GWB, and the Obama phenomenon took off, and Hillary started to dig her own political grave through misshandling of her campaign.

I absolutely think that Bill Clinton's DNC speech, the Biden vp nomination, speech and nature of the man will seal the deal and carry Obama to the White House. Regular people outside of the metro areas do care that Obama and Biden seem to be good men/husbands/fathers, with solid families and bootstrap stories (as opposed to Edwards, or most of the Republicans divorces, dalliances and wealth). They hate the war, but will be moved by the fact that Biden's kid is going. And they really relate to the regular people vignettes that Biden cited. As a result, I think that whatever concerns middle American may have about Obama's youth, or difference, the fact that he chose Joe's truth telling scrappiness will over Hillary will ultimately win him the presidency.

I agree cynicalgirl! The Clintons are still a lightning rod for the GOP base. It's why they were salivating over a Hillary candidacy.

Biden is so cool.

I've been watching the convention on CSPAN - I really prefer watching it unmoderated. Who the heck cares what the smarmy talking heads think?

I thought Kerry's speech was really good.

I agree, jem. I started out on MSNBC last night, clicked around and landed on CSPAN. Not watching the whole thing, just last night and tonight.
