Rum raisin ice cream? archived

This is my husband's favorite flavor (I personally hate it) and he hasn't been able to find it in any of the local markets around here - even down the Shore, the ice cream shops don't seem to carry it.

Anyone know why? Does anyone else love it and know a place around here to find it?

I like dulce de leche myself, and that's no prolem to find, but rum raisin? No luck.
Applegate farm , Montclair . They sell pints at shoprite in West Orange..

Turkey Hill also makes a rum raisin.

I haven't had it in a while, but I would expect to find it in a H

Perhaps it's a seasonal thing?

Don't know....we've tried four or five supermarkets and ice cream stores around here and no one had it. The ice cream store clerk said they weren't stocking it any more because it wasn't very popular. Didn't ask at the supermarkets. We'll try some of the places suggested here.

I was really surprised that Springer's down in Stone Harbor didn't have it, since they have a blackboard full of various flavors.

I was going to suggest Applegate Farms also. They've got it:

I worked at an ice cream parlor and developed a taste for Rum Raisin long ago. It's one of the more sophisticated flavors, in my opinion.

I haved a half-eaten carton in my freezer now. Bought it at Shop Rite Short Hills recently.

It's been showing up in the freezer at King's lately, so all is well.

But I think we'll try the Applegate Farm brand - sounded good.

Maybe it was a seasonal thing (like Mallomars?).....

Thanks, everyone.

Just saw it at the Pathmark in South Orange.

I love Rum raisin too. It's an old flavor, served in 1776 at the first ice-cream parlour in New York. Now it seems unusal to rum flavor a children's treat. That's probably why it's more difficult to find than, say, mint chip, which tastes like toothpaste.

BTW, I discovered a great ice-cream place in Caldwell, right across from Grover Clevland's birthplace. You can visit both for a great local daytrip (and includ Kip's Castle and Verona Park in too):

Gelotti Ice Cream
194 Bloomfield Avenue
Caldwell, NJ 07006

They don't have rum raison, unfortunatly, but lots of other exotic flavors.

Pretty sure they have it at the ice cream shop in the Village.
