Rome and the Amalfi Coast

Buena Sera!

In Florence and Rome we stayed at the St. Regis and the Westin. In Amalfi, we stayed at the Santa Caterina.

From Amalfi, take a day trip to Capri. We rented a chartered boat so we could stop and swim, have lunch on the boat if we wanted and have knowledgeable pros point out the beautiful sites.

We did rent a car to drive from Florence to Venice and it was magical. However, I would not rent nor drive a car on Amalfi. The roads are incredibly tight and honestly, you'd have to grow up there in order to navigate the streets and tunnels.

I did some Trip Advisor research and decided to go through I Love Rome Tours. At that time (about 5 years ago) the private vs. public tour prices weren't that different, so we did private. Both tour guides were like family by the end. I'd suggest a reputable guide for The Vatican, The Underground and The Catacombs. The Vatican has dress codes for all females and they are serious. The guide will inform you of all the customs and do's and don'ts with each site visited. With guides, you don't wait in line and each guide we had was a art history major and extremely knowledgeable.

Our last stop before home was Pompeii. If I can recall it all we did Rome, Florence, Ravello, Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi. It was AMAZING and I'm jealous (and happy for you!) that you are going.

boomie-I’m interested in ur Vatican City recc for our next trip—which I hope is SOON! So fun thinking of Italy when it’s winter here...

TIA

Looks amazing! Thanks

For getting from Rome to Atrani, we decided to splurge and get a driver combined with a tour of Pompeii.

For Rome, we went with something a little more modern, due to size and balconies.

For Atrani, smaller and slightly eclectic but with a view:

Any more food recommendations for the area below Vatican City(around Via Domenico Silveri), and for the cities of Amalfi/Atrani ?

Kibbegirl, I like the idea of charter.  Do you remember who you used?

Thanks,

RCH

Edited for spelllllllllllling.

@rch2330 I don't, sorry. I looked through saved papers and it isn't in there. We probably arranged it via the Hotel Santa Caterina.
