Road Rage attack/incident

The other day on SO Avenue, I stopped for a pedestrian at the cross walk and the car behind me LAID on his horn like a mad man. I could see him in my rearview and he looked nutty as hell and angry. As soon as the person crossed, I proceeded to go and the driver tries to get on my side I guess to curse me out? He isn't successful and eventually speeds down another street.

FWIW, I keep a small Louisville slugger in the front when I'm alone and when I have passengers, in the back. Safety first.

In Chile mothers feel entitled to park their cars anywhere to drop off and pick up their kids, even in the middle of an intersection where there is traffic moving in all directions. They expect you to wait until they give instructions, check the car so that they don't forget anything, and kiss each other good-bye. No one honks but me.

This happened to me over the Sumner, but it was a big Flock of geese crossing in front of me. I waited for them to cross, no big deal. But a guy gets behind me and can't stop laying on the horn. I look in the rearview mirror, and the guy looked an exorcism was being performed on him! Hands and arms flailing, shouting bloody murder....I thought the guy was going to pop a blood vessel. All over having to wait 60-90 seconds.

Just happened to me today when I dared go the speed limit right after school began on Jefferson.

Had a great experience 1045 this morning which underscores all that is wrong with people in one tidy, crazed nutshell. Pulling left onto Parker and two cars come up heading toward CHS. Car in the rear is RIGHT ON the bumper of the other, who is doing about 25ish. Dude swerves a bit, then floors it (relatively speaking since the car didn't exactly zoom) across the double yellow into the other lane, BEFORE THE BLIND HILL, runs parallel for a couple seconds, and finally passes, now doing over 45mph. I'm behind the passed car now, and stopped at the light two cars behind the lunatic at Prospect, with one in front of him. Light goes green and the guy leans on his horn a SECOND later, the cars in front and behind him turn and he speeds at least at 45mph down Parker to Valley to a red light no less. I eventually pull up behind him at the light. He goes right onto Valley with me behind and pulls half-assed into SO Friendly. I decide to stop at the curb and get out.

(Yes, I know I know, I shouldn't have confronted him and all that. Highlight that if you feel it necessary, but it was what it was. I was fuming. My kids live and walk to school steps away from where he pulled this BS. I don't regret it and won't...my family is too important to me.)

Anyhoo, before this older gentleman (using the term loosely of course) gets out of his car, and with two other men standing five feet away, I told him that if I ever saw him driving so recklessly in a neighborhood filled with children (and not just MY children) and in such close proximity to TWO large schools, and so clearly not in any emergency, I'd do everything within my legal rights to make sure his ass was confined to his house and he never got behind he wheel again. Of course he didn't take too kindly to this, I moved away so as to not block his exit from the car, whereupon he had the gall to scream that "all you 'Maplewoodians' (the word said with such dripping scorn) drive too @&$& slow, f-ing 25 mph on the roads here!!!" and prattled on as if he had he right to do what he did, telling me to get the F out of there. After a few choice expletives of my own I let him know that 25 is the MOTHERF&$@ING SPEED LIMIT so YES that's why we drive that "slow", and that I strongly suggested he not try it again in the vicinity of my neighborhood. And left.

This isn't obliviousness, this isn't carelessness and this isn't senility. This is someone who is filled with ego and rage, and clearly just doesn't give a siht about anyone else, including other drivers and quite especially young children of all things, and has to be one of the most frightening examples of the exceedingly dangerous, callous and self-centered mentality of those on local roads.

The police will be notified tomorrow morning of this reckless driver (I was late for an important meeting else would have stopped in earlier today) and I'll let them handle it as they see fit, as I will the next time I see him exhibiting this inexcusable behavior. In the interim I've attached a pic below of the car, so if the tailgated/passed driver of the car he swerved around sees this and cares to add his/her story to the coming complaint, they can do so.

And if anyone knows this *****, they might want to have a chat with him, assuming he isn't filled with the rage he exhibited on the roads, in the hopes that he might see he's no different than an unattended gun in a kindergarten.

Obviously driving is his handicap.

Sorry to offend any people with a real handicap including this guy who may have one.

Good for you! Taking a picture of the guy's license plate was a great idea. I was once driving behind someone who was clearly drunk; I took a photo of the plate at a red light. Came in handy when, at the next red light, she veered directly into my car (which was then on her left -- we were both stopped), hit me pretty hard, then took off shouting "arshatt!" When I told her to pull over.

There was a cop at the next corner; I showed him the photo, he called and they apprehended her 5 minutes later doing 80 on 280. She resisted and spent the night in jail, losing her license on the way, AND had to pay for all my damage. Karma's a bitch.

Another reason why cell phone cameras are totally bad ass.

Heroic.

My fellow MOL/Soma community, friends, and neighbors at large that I talk to say I need to post this. Apparently I can't post on Soma Swap Lounge, so I'm posting here. I am the one that was the pedestrian in the accident/incident that this thread was started over. I know many continue to reach out with prayers and questions about whether there's anything anyone can do for me or my family. The trial is coming up shortly (that's about all I can say here). For us the financial ramifications of that day are hanging heavy over our heads. So if you are one that has seen a similar post and/or contributed to this fund started by a friend of mine, then forgive this 2nd posting and Thank you as well.

If you have previously expressed a desire to assist me in any small financial way, (or large - I don't want to stop the hugely charitable on their life mission : ), then I and my whole gang Thank you.

I continue to believe that justice will prevail. Unfortunately, driver's in our area are continually jeopardizing the safety of our citizens that are walking within safety zones constantly. Today, while driving, I stopped for someone in the freezing cold clearly having no success and crossing at an intersection on Valley & 1st. I was honked at for obeying the law.

I believe there is a state fund for people who were injured in a criminal event. Ask our local assembly representative about this.
