I would get another laptop, not a desktop. I've had a laptop now for years and I can't imagine going back to a desktop. I have an external hard drive onto which I back up all my data periodically. I've done well with HPs and they have laptops at all pricepoints.
Just picked up a new Acer laptop which my friend recommended because he likes the platform, what the hell does that mean? Coexisting with Windows 10 after abandoning the now dangerous Vista system

Same advise I got from my vacation host.
He is also guessing that problems I have noticed are due to failing back-up battery, so old laptop might be salvageable.

My laptop is 8-9 years old and runs on Windows 7. I am clueless as to what I should replace it with.
I use it for e-mail, maintaining my web site, writing/editing a newsletter, storing some 25,000+ photos, and for power point presentations when I speak at orchid societies, garden clubs, etc.
I do not use it for music, movies, Facebook or any other social media.
I also have a small tablet (android), which is only a year old. I use it primarily to process credit card sales, and as an emergency camera when I do not have my real camera available.
What would be the most practical/economical choices going forward?
