I can't offer any first-hand experience because I don't have a ScanSnap. But anecdotally, I'm seeing a number of ScanSnap users in various forums who are saying they have been running the Sierra public beta and have had no issues with their PDFs. Clearly this doesn't mean it's a false alarm....

Scansnap is a document scanner. If you don't have one, no need to be worried.
Thank you for the notice! We use scansnap and a fantastic Fujitsu scanner.
I happened across a bit of an update regarding this issue:
For anyone still holding off on the Sierra update due to the ScanSnap issue, apparently there is now a fix:

Thank you, @BrickPig. Does this mean that my wife can update her Mac now and not do anything else? She hasn't done it yet.

I can't really say for sure, as I'm not a ScanSnap user. I just ran across that page over my lunch time and remembered that some people here are. Quickly looking over the page, it looked to me as if there were certain steps to take before creating new ScanSnap files, and other steps to take with regard to previously-created ScanSnap files. But I didn't read it very closely.

Saw this in this morning's tech news and thought I'd pass it along. Apple's Sierra OS drops today, but if you use a ScanSnap scanner you might want to hold off on upgrading:
