Power ball is $1.3 billion. There are 300 million people in the United States.

If we came together as a country and split it equally we'd each get $4.33.  I'd buy a latte.  What would you do with your share of the bounty?

Buy a lottery ticket

The last two posts sum up the entirety of philosophy.

Dry it

And roll it

And smoke it

buy 2 cash for life tickets bank the $0.33

Buy a coke and a snickers because f**king taxes, man.

I'd apply a penny per second towards adding sound to John Cage's 4'33".

Wipe up the spill from your latte.

I'd take a friend for a McPick 2.

False hope..............put 2 dollars aside each week and after a few months donate it to a worthy charity.

The world will be a better place and you will have done a good deed.

I believe the correct quote was coke and hookers.

I don't want to know what kind of hookers I can get for $2.

$2 won't get you much. I did know someone who paid for a sexual act (trying to keep it at least somewhat PG-13, lets just say it wasn't intercourse) and she wanted $10 for it. He talked her down to $8.  However, this was about 20 years ago so who knows what that would cost today with inflation.

This guy said that's what he'd do if he won it. That's a lot of blow and blow jobs. hehe

I just realized that maybe I would be foolish to blow my $4.33 on a latte. As a family of five if we pool our $4.33 together we could order a large pie with pepperoni from Roman Gourmet and still have money left over for a 2 liter. I'm a financial genius!!!

spontaneous,  I would buy you another latte. Or an order of garlic knots to go with your pizza. Because I'm a giver.

I think that I could be fine with the taxes.

we live in a weird time in our country when someone can write an article about the downside of paying taxes on -- get this -- 1.4 billion (with a b) dollars.

Obviously not all 300 million people in the US are living in poverty and so wouldn't "need" the powerball money, but sadly around 24.2 million children in the US live in households that are under the poverty level (data from 2012)....dividing it amongst them still wouldn't "solve" poverty in the USA. Sad. The money could go further in a developing country though.... 1.3 billion is just too much for one person to win.

I agree, carrielogo.

Unless it's me.  smile

Great article...yes, I'd still be thrilled to win after all of the taxes, but this article does a good job of explaining the tax "traps" (under-withholding, etc.) that help land so many winners in financial troubles.

I think replacing all the plumbing in your house with 24k gold is the type of thing that get lottery winners in trouble.

Seriously consider how many Ferraris you really need.  This was the best advice.

Eureka! In "If I Had a Million," W.C. Fields and Alison Skipworth buy a fleet of junkers, then proceed to sacrifice them, one by one, by running bad drivers off the road.

(Excellent, and timely, movie, by the way.)
