Pen exploded in dryer on brand new khaki pants archived

May 25, 2014 at 8:43am
Discovered AFTER the dryer had finished, so of course the stain appears set. I am currently using 91% alcohol, which is making it appear lighter, but not making it go away.

Any other suggestions? I've heard of using hair spray, but I think that that works because of the alcohol content. I am also worried since this stain is heat set.
I think you're going to have to write this off.

I would be more concerned with the inside of the dryer having ink in it, to possibly ruin future laundry.
Best of luck ...

Once the ink is "set" in the dryer it doesn't transfer to anything else. Unfortuntately, I know this from experience. This isn't the first time a pen has exploded in the dryer. It is the brand new, literally worn once, pair of pants that has my goat.

Try Tide to Go--the orange stick that you rub in. Maybe that will help.

Yes, I was able remove dryer stains from an exploded Bic pen with stain removal fluid, after a few hours of scrubbing.

Hair spray. Spray & blot with paper towel repeat

I think the "after a few hours" bit is the answer. The alcohol is working, just very, very, slowly. Tedious does not begin to describe the process. If I could I would just fill the sink with rubbing alcohol and soak the pants. grin)

Try a soak in a sink filled with Oxi Clean and water?

Sorry about the pants, but that was funny.

I found more 91% in the basement and put the pants in the sink. I dumped the bottle and a half that I had in there and then added cold water until the pants are covered. Hopefully that will loosen up the ink.

Lol only to you and me.
;-)

Try Grain Alcohol. Mix with ice and some lemonaide and consume orally. You won't care about the pants after that.

We used to mix it with Tang back in the day. I know someone who did a straight shot of Everclear once and actually kept it down.

Tang!
Wow THAT takes me back.

Try Fells Naptha bar soap (for laundry)- it's a miracle worker.

Sorry, spon… been there. It will fade and possibly but not come out entirely. (Gardening pants? painting/ projects pants? I hate when that happens)!
:-(( :-((

Hairspray is supposed to work; not sure if it will given that they already went through the dryer.

I think I would spray with hairspray until the area is soaked, then fold them up and leave them in the sink for a few hours. You have nothing to lose.

You could alternate that with running them through the wash with something like Oxy Clean for several rounds; just throw them in with other loads, take them out wet and treat, let them air dry, treat again, throw in the wash, and so on. Don't put them in the dryer again as long as the stain is still there.

I've had pretty good luck getting stains out by applying grim determination repeatedly. And it's not too much of a PITA as long as you are putting them in with loads you would be washing anyway.

And yes, that was darned funny. oh oh

Soak them in warm water and oxy clean (a good spoon ful) and leave them for a couple of days. You may want to add more oxy clean to the spot itself fold it over and forget about it. It has removed a lot of stuff for me.

After soaking them I then washed them in cold water with Tide and half a gallon of vinegar. There are one or two minor spots, but otherwise they look great. And the spots that are still there are now small, not the huge smears that were originally there.

The dryer has some stains, but they seem pretty well set and after running a load with white towels I didn't see any ink transfer so I think it is safe to use for clothing again.

My kid got dark blue paint all over one of her favorite skirts. I saturated it with the Carbona #1 stain devil and let it sit for a day or two, then washed it -- but not much paint came out. Any suggestions?

I had a latex paint on clothing issue a few years back. I believe it might have been @wendy who had a solution to get it out. I don't recall what the solution was, but it did work.

I don't recall what if anything I may have suggested. My main stain remover product is Zout. And for a few other things I purchased those individual little bottles you could find at Shoprite for stain specific issues. Glad you had some success with all you tried.

It might have been someone else then. It was a few years back. I was painting the bedroom and managed to get paint on clothing INSIDE a closed closet. Someone on MOL had a method to get the stains out and it worked beautifully.

Found it, it was from you Wendy, but apparently quoted from another website which may be why you don't recall the advice.

Here is how to get paint out of clothing. I used this method and it worked.

RE: Removing Paint Stains from Clothing

My friends call me the queen of clean, I normally can get any stain out of just about any fabric. However, I couldn't, for the life of me, get dried white paint splatter out of an expensive black gaberdine jacket. After reading some posting on this website I combined the following which worked like magic !!!

1) Saturated the stains in hairspray & waited about 2 minutes

2) Before the hr/sp completely dried - took an old hard toothbrush soaked in rubbing alcohol and vigorously scrubbed the stains

3) Then again, before the liquids could dry, thoroughly sprayed the stains with 409 spray original formula), followed by a hard rubbing with a dry wash cloth... and voola...out stains
