New Whole Foods in Newark!

Hi All,

We visited yesterday for lunch. VERY crowded as you might expect for lunch given all the office workers within 5 blocks. Good food. Seemed an expanded hot table with extra Chinese choices. There are two specialty spots plus pizza and sandwiches. The two fun spots are a hot dog corner that has 4 specialty dogs to choose from and two of them plus Tots is $10. There is a Peruvian spot that looked very good and will try in the future.

You need a code for the bathrooms which you get on your receipt if you've already bought something. They might want to reconsider the implications of a policy like that...Seems odd to me.

Best is a very spacious underground parking lot entered off New Street off of Broad that gives 90 minutes free if you spend $11.00 or more. Since two of us had lunch that was no problem at Whole Pay Check.

They have some opening specials that are quite good. Haven't checked against the regular stores: Clementine for 3.99, uncooked whole chix for .99 a pound, grapes 1.99/lb.

Definitely worth the food tourist excursion. If you are unawares, there is now a Carousel across Broad in Military Park. Not sure it is open in the winter.

Best Regards,

Ron Carter

The Haynes Atrium is pretty but not yet staffed with stores though there are some tables Whole Food Customers can use to eat.

a lot of urban areas lock bathrooms to keep 'vagrants' out. even some non urban areas. Aldi locks their bathrooms even in the nicer neighborhoods. Burlington on 46 near Parsippany locked their bathroom. But I am guessing they don't change the code? So someone just has to get a hold of a receipt and they have the code.

I'm excited about the Hahne's conversion and Whole Foods too.

I think the Hahne's project is an example of the good that tax incentives can do and how eliminating them (as Phil Murphy and John Wisniewski want to do) could freeze redevelopment in NJ's cities. (the Hahne's project received $40 million).

A million years ago, I went to college on those streets. There was no Rutgers Newark campus We used office buildings and whatever space that could be had. A favorite short cut was through Hahne's to cut through to parallel streets. Of course the store tried to discourage it but there was no way of barring us. The beginning of student defiance of society norms

This is great for Newark, and it provides 150 jobs. Newark has so much potential.
