Im surprised Ted Nugent hasnt gotten an overrated vote, for his politics alone.

how can he be overrated? does anyone rate him at all?

And here I thought it was U2.

I'm a slightly bigger fan than Ridski, and, as he notes, "Achtung Baby" is too good to be denied. Amazing tour de force, cover to cover.

From therein, one of my all-time favorite songs:

U2 was OK up until Joshua Tree. Thereon, pure over rated suckage. Can we say "sell outs"?

As for "One" I will give them credit for the song writing but, in order to understand how poor their performance is you have to listen to the Johnny Cash cover which is a true masterpiece.

My suggestion for least liked group...

maybe this should be titled "Popular Bands that You Don't Get"

Talking Heads? No way! "Remain in light" is an insanely amazing album.

Most overrated band is Nirvana, followed by The Doors.

Excellent names for this.

You sound like you're in high school.

Achtung Baby is hardly suckage.

Eta: I don't know why I'm having so much trouble with the quote function.

+2, or are we up to 3 by now?

Metallica. Really bothers me that heavy metal gets respect.
Lou Reed. He's just terrible.

Me, too! I never really 'got' Rush and Pink Floyd. Thought Doors were way overrated.

What about The Sex Pistols, this isone band I’ve never understood. They’re music is not all that and they were only around for what 2 years??

Now now ... Let not be so harsh on Metallica wink

In this thread, does "overrated" mean "not as good as all the hype", or, "I really don't like/get their music" or "I couldn't play like that in 100 years"?

For example, I don't love the Rolling Stones, musically, but I wouldn't call them overrated.

Really smart people can't participate ess. :-D

Blasphemers!

There bands are whose music I don't like but I can respect their talent. There are bands I like even though I don't think they're incredibly talented.

This seems to be, "bands other people like that I don't think are talented."

my interpretation of most of the responses is -- "I don't like X."

Santana (and it's not even close)

I kind of think that's irrelevant to rock & roll, if by "talented" we're talking about clever writing or virtuoso playing. the whole point of rock & roll is to convey a feeling. and pretty much by definition, a popular band is conveying something to a whole lot of people.

I think a case could be made for calling a band "overrated" if critics love the band, but hardly any typical rock & roll fans care about it. there are a few of those, whose reputations far exceed their popularity.

but to call a band that sells out stadiums "overrated" seems a little strange to me. again, it's more like -- "a lot of people seem to like this band, but I don't get it."

I am not a fan of any of their later work, but I do like their early years ('60's stuff). Some of that was, for the time, brilliant.
