Train Commute - 4/4-4/7

The Hoboken-39th Street ferry stopped running at 9:30 (just missed it).

Morris and Essex are running on a normal weekday schedule, but all go into Hoboken. NEC and NCL are on the weekend/holiday schedule.

How was the PATH this morning (around 8:15)? I took a bus today because I was so traumatized from yesterday's PATH experience. The PATH option didn't look as bad as yesterday, but I was curious about the bus (it took too long for me, but would be a good way to go if you don't have to be anywhere at a specific time).

Is it safe, i.e., not as nightmarish as yesterday, to ride the PATH again tomorrow?

Tomorrow has a flood watch:

Does Hoboken station tend to flood?

Spouse just got on a train at Brick Church on the normal weekday schedule. You are right about the website. It took her to Hoboken.

Best Regards,

Yes, the tracks flood somewhat at times. This rain should not be a big deal in Hoboken.

Thanks for the tip on the 126 bus. Took it this morning. Easy.

I took the 7:09 train from SO to Hobo this morning. It's the local train. Everything went fine including the PATH.

I took the 10:39 am to Hoboken from Maplewood this morning and then the 3:29 pm back later today - the Path went smoothly to/from Manhattan in either direction with no crowding at those hours (just FYI).

I drove to union station this morning. Plenty of daily parking. One stop to Newark Penn and connect to the city. Let's see how it goes during evening rush.

This was my eventual commuting solution after Sandy and it worked pretty well then.

Local bus to Newark Penn Station (in my case 25, 31, or 70 but there are others) was my go to when the train wasn't running. Could work for those living near a local bus route.

minor delays en route and absolutely packed SRO trains. All the machinations add a half hour to the regular commute. I'm still concerned about the evening though. I'll probably just leave early. I have a 4:30 call that I can just as easily do from the train since I'll mostly be listening.

“He’s nowhere to be found, while literally hundreds of thousands of his constituents are struggling and businesses are losing money,” said Dave Geller, 44, who had to work from his home in Maplewood on Wednesday. “At some point the buck has to stop where? You’re the man in charge.”

“Even though the ARC tunnel project wouldn’t be done now, we’d be able to say, ‘When this project finishes, this is going to get better,’” said Daniel De Simone, 37, whose commute to Midtown Manhattan from South Orange took about an hour longer than usual on Wednesday.

Christie Lies Low, but Can’t Avoid Wrath of Commuters

I think I speak for all NJ mass transit commuters when I say that Christie can go f himself.

He said NJ didn't have the money for the tunnel.

Damn, man, you're the governor. Governors are supposed to BUILD stuff. You could have had your name on the tunnel years after you're dead.

This Slate podcast discussion -- "Christie's Biggest Mistake" -- begins at about 2:52 and runs to 19:40 -- roughly 16 minutes.  Drag your cursor to the 2:52 point.  There's a brief discussion at the beginning regarding the Trump CNN tweet that's filled with expletives, in case you want to listen to it.
