Michelle Obama plays the reverse race card archived

I mean 90% of press give him a "pass" on other crap it would slam some other President on.

UHH...the economy for one and pumping money into the system...where did that go? Down the tubes. It was the goverments decision to do that, as I recall. Or am I dreaming?

once again I ask you for a specific "pass" you would want the press to slam him for? I can think of a couple off the bat. I would have like to see a repeal of the Patriot act instead of an expansion of those power and the closing of Guantanamo. I think he's fallen down there, but overall I think this president has a record of achievement that is absolutely tremendous and that we all benefit from.

Beginning with women who benefit from the Lily Ledbetter act to be paid the same wages for the same work as a man, with the formation of the consumer protection agency which has already had the effect of transforming the way banks speak and act with us all so that they cannot so easily trick us with fine print.

thats an interesting comment. So you preferred when your 401K, IRA and any stock holdings you had were in the toilet at maybe half their current value? Or you wouldnt have minded if all the US car manufacturers folded?

Maybe you wanted high inflation so your earned dollar would buy you less? But go ahead and rail about "pumping money" into the system.

If you take a moment to look at some of the comments about Obama at the bottom of so many Yahoo articles, for example, you would forgive the Obamas for thinking that the criticism is about race. I don't know what percentage of the country gives Obama failing marks strictly because he is black, but I bet it is at least 10%.

Other than that, his presidency has been far from a failure. Given the economic train wreck was based on a quarter century and more of irresponsible government, I would say he has done pretty well. He finally ended our involvement in Iraq. Bin Laden is dead. Numerous other terrorists are dead.

There are the ones you mentioned but also others (smaller) that, had it been any other President he would have been hammered by the press.

Ie; lavish parties
Lavish and often vacations
Job creation - NO census workers and holiday help DON'T count.
Military cuts
NOT passing a budget prior to midterm elections so they could "pass the buck" on blame.
Appointments when congress out of session.

She's routinely demonized by Rush and the other rightwingers for just the stereotype she named. And the image of the strong black woman who emasculates her man is an old one too. Much as Zoinks and company scour the land for instances in which members of targeted groups are less than naive and innocent, she's probably lived the experience rather than judging it from afar.

About Bin Laden..there were reports that Obama hesitated and military officials had to force the issue and possibly go around Obama's hesitation to initiate the attack. So I question that it was Obama who initiated it.

That stereotype most definitely has been used by people criticizing her.

The actual words, "angry black woman", have been used by television commentators. This started up in 2008, as Mr. Obama became a likely nominee.

National Review put a "scolding" picture of her on the cover, with the title, "Mrs. Grievance". I already posted a "cartoon" that has a similar theme.

Somebody unhappy with the prospect of Mr. Obama getting the nomination instead of Ms. Clinton started a rumor that there was a tape of Ms. Obama complaining about "whitey".

So, if Ms. Obama recognizes that these steretotypes have been and are being flung around, and she says, "That's not me", then SHE's the one playing a race card?

I don't think so.

She's getting similar treatment, with the added element of "Angry Black Woman".

The added element with Hillary Clinton was "Secret Lesbian", if I recall correctly.

As for jobs, look at the graphic in another thread comparing unemployment under Reagan and Obama. Census workers and seasonal employment are taken into account when employment numbers are calculated.

Military cuts? Which military cuts have been implemented?

I agree about the budget. Proposing one us part of his job.

Appointments? He's made fewer recess appointments than most other modern Presidents.

There are some real issues to be had with Obama. And he does get called on them. This list is like skimming Hannity's website. Which I'm sure the poster above did not do. It just seems like a list of headlines without much substance.

Parties and vacations...yes should be scrutinized...he is acting like a 1%er. Even the Queen of England knows when to bring it down a notch during a recession. She has cut parties, minimizing heat use, and reusing her clothing instead of buying new. Even the the big actors calmed it down with extavagent jewelry, clothing when the recession began and still going on.

This thread puts me in mind of Nancy Reagan. As First Lady, Nancy was a force to be reckoned with when she found fault with any of RR's appointees.
