Mea Culpa

I actually think terp and LP post in liberal threads to get a rise out of people while they hide behind their anonymity.

Oh and Lord P: my post was perfect. As civil to you as you deserve.

When the position of two or more sides are discussed until they become indistinguishable that is called working to a compromise and concensus . Which is the way a society should work. People will naturally have differing options. My way or the highway can never be consistant with continued democracy.

That is exactly the skill we have lost and why those totally unwilling to budge or bend from an extreme position need to be removed.

Just wrote a similar email to my cousin who is convinced that because I don't like Trump that I have an extreme left position on everything. I believe in compromise in politics. We are a mad blend of cultures and lifestyles in this country and no one gets to have it all their way.

You may be a real poster and a real liberal democrat. But you're not being civil.

I am being as civil as posters like you deserve. And stop stalking me in other threads or I will get you banned in a nanosecond. @jamie

Oh and in this political climate directness and action is what counts. And as long as I am not attacking someone just their stupid beliefs all is well in MOL land and elsewhere. Sheesh.

First: I'm not stalking you.

Second, assuming those who disagree with you have "stupid beliefs" is not likely going to result in civility.

I've got into some heated exchanges with people here before.  And I've had a lot said to me.  I've also said some regrettable things in the heat of the moment.

That being said, I think everyone deserves civility.  I'm not sure what I've done to deserve disdain from you.  Apologies if you feel insulted by my existence.

Are you Lord Pablum's alter ego? How about you read the whole thread before you comment further.

I don't know if you are pulling our collective legs, but I will assume that you are being factual in your response.

I think what LP was trying to convey was: the enlightened state their thesis.  To which, the unenlightened respond with their anti-thesis.   Which results in the two parties agreeing on a compromise which is appropriately called the synthesis (being an amalgam of both the thesis and anti-thesis).  Thus, the POVs for both parties becomes indistinguishable (AKA the synthesis position).

Especially when civility between the enlightened and unenlightened makes both indistinguishable

I have to admit I'm so unenlightened I don't even know what this means.

RealityForAll, I don't think at all that is what Lord Pablum was trying to say. I suggest you read the whole thread starting with I believe shoshanah's comment on the preceding page and what flowed from there:

"I think the remorseful ones are the highly educated Republicans. It's literally a civil war between enlightenment vs. unenlightenment."

in the context of the discussion that preceded it, that statement still makes no sense to me. But maybe I'm being uncivil.

I guess your cousin doesn't watch MSNBC. Most of the time I turn it on I see a true Conservative, for example, Jennifer Rubin or David Frum or Steve Schmidt or Michael Steele saying stuff about Trump that is far more harsh than what I hear from many Liberals.

If she will not turn on MSNBC send her a subscription to National Review or the Atlantic.

you know, even though I commented on it, I now realize that it makes no sense to me either.

It makes perfect sense fellas (I mean ml1 and drummerboy). Look at what shoshannah wrote and then look at Lord Pablum's response. He was basically saying that both sides are not civil - the enlightened and the unenlightened. It's the foolish moral equivilence the media messed up about during the election. Trump said/did horrible things but then instead of just reporting that it was but what about her emails? that the alt right stressed and the the MTM picked up on to show it was fair. You yourself drummerboy correctly disagreed with Lord Pablum's response already.

I'm not really anonymous. (My IRL initials are sac and many people know who I am and if anyone wants to know they can pm me.)  I set my username up this way because I was always pretty active in the Education threads and sometimes about my kids and I didn't really want to involve them or have someone say something to one of them about what I had posted.

You are right. It made me fall a little in love with Frum, Schmidt and Steele. And I'm mad about Rick Wilson. Of course if you want to enjoy Schmidt's story, its worth watching Game Change. His exchanges with Palin were classic. And of course there is another character in the story, Nicole Wallace. We mustn't forget Joe Scarborough who renounced being a Republican over all of this. (Mike probably had a bit to do with it.)

As for my cousin, he watches Fox.

I tried to get the handle Morgan Le Fay as it is the name of my cat rescue and I started posting on the shelter issue. It said it was taken so I kept trying to modify it and came up with Morganna.  I always give people my cat rescue card and never thought about the fact that my own name wasn't even on it so people who contacted me called me Morgan. I got used to it.
