Maplewoodstock: updates for tents and blankets

This is the second thread I have read today. Interestingly enough it is an appropriate response to some of what is being said on the other thread about the lack of a need for rules and regulations.

They would argue that "the market" would price the space.  Canopies would be fair game, nobody but those in the front row paying top dollar would see anything. Russian oligarchs would probably be leasing the front row spaces, but they wouldn't show up.

I'm really looking forward to being there - with a chair and a cooler. Maybe some sunscreen. I'm not sure why people need any more than that. The hot sun a problem? Wear a hat and long sleeves.

All the tents and blankets and lean-to's and canopies (and canapes) and sleeping bags, and platforms and the rest just take up room, make the festival more crowded than it needs to be and make moving through the crowd more difficult. The folks who lay down huge blankets and then don't show up 'til later in the day are just selfish as far as I'm concerned.

"When your full party is here, we will seat you at your table. In the meantime, feel free to have a drink in the beer tent."

When you have a bunch of kids running around, some coolers, and friends, it's helpful to have a home base. One chair isn't going to cut it.

And just a reminder, if you pack it in (or purchase it while you're there) - please pack it out or use the appropriate container to dispose of it.   Let's leave the hill in the same, clean condition as we find it on Saturday morning!

Maplewoodstock has gotten too big to allow everyone to have their own "home base." There are literally thousands of people crammed into a relatively small space. The days of the light, roomy music fest are over. Last year I looked at the hill, saw all of the people and said "F-This." It's time for a change.

That's not what I am implying at all. Everyone having their own "home base" is not possible, and I think the new rules are a good step in the right direction.

Just to remind y'all why you go to begin with...

Clarified. Not OK to set up Friday or anytime before Sat morning.

So I can set-up this Saturday morning ...

Great.

Thanks.

looking forward to it!

Thanks.  We usually set up with the back edge against the bushes at the top of the hill (  behind Hank Z)  - so no blocking anyones sight lines, but we'll go with the umbrella this year.

What about something like this?

Height wise, it is usually just high enough for an adult to sit in a chair  without hitting her head.

2.     To ensure sightlines, only open-sided canopies are allowed.  Close-sided structures of any type are prohibited.

Looks like No.

Where will they be selling t-shirts before the event ?

I don't think we'll have another chance prior to the event.  You can buy online during the week here:

Hey guys. I moved away in January but left a blanket behind on the hill. I'll try to swing by for a few minutes on Sunday - hope that's not a problem.

Just drove by and its still there, no worries.

I'm going to build a YUGE wall around my space on the hill and Maplewoodstock is going to pay for it!

Did you do the same thing a few years back, directly in front of me? I definitely paid. Well done.

Anyone know if they are recruiting volunteers?  I enjoyed helping with t-shirt and CD sales and other tasks in past years, but I think that was via the HK fund when it was still operating and heavily involved with this event.

Some festival adjustments:

By consolidating our Arts Vendors on the south side of the park (towards the library), we have opened up some new grass areas for our audience on the north side (Oakview side) of the park.  Accordingly, the "canopy line" will now be above the asphalt pathway on that side of the park.  We hope this small adjustment provides more audience space and clusters our Arts Vendors together more favorably.

The map attached should give you a reasonable idea of what we're aiming for.  We will make final arrangements during our set-up on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

(Before you comment on the DIY nature of our map, consider this a request for a volunteer to help us make a more professional map next year.)

I can't be the only one desperate to scribble an "F" in front of "ARTS," can I?

I'll be in the kid zone if you need me.
