MAPLEWOODSTOCK

the canopy policy also says no tents

you are probably ok if you are within the marked "canopy zone"

the 7 foot height rule applies to the "canopies"

I've mentioned it elsewhere but I will be doing Deejay duty between the bands all weekend long. I have some eclectic and groovy tunes (and many covers) queued up. Come over to the sound table and say hello. Let me know that you love what I'm playing. Or not.

Request for Mr. T: "Last Plane Out" by Toy Matinee again. ;-)

Ow 'bout Sons of the Pioneers with Roy Rogers as lead?

Beginning with the 2015 festival:
1. We will establish a “Canopy Zone” -- a clearly marked area on the hill in which canopies may be set
up. No canopies (including tents, gazebos, and umbrellas) may be situated outside the Canopy Zone.
2. To ensure sightlines, only open-sided canopies are allowed. Close-sided structures of any type are
prohibited.

3. No canopy may exceed a 10’ x 10’ area. In addition, to ensure sightlines, canopies must be raised to
a height of no less than 7 feet (ground to bottom of canopy top).
4. Arts, Food, and Kid Zone vendors will not be affected by this policy.
5. We will establish 3-4 (clearly-marked) aisles of passage down and across the hill that will remain
absolutely free and clear of any furniture, blankets or any other material.
6. We will proactively enforce this new policy.

double posted (edited)

I'm not sure my little beach umbrella goes up 7 feet, but I'm not schlepping my patio umbrella. Am I headed for the Maplewoodstock jail (hopefully next to the Maplewoodstock beer garden)?

When can people start setting up? Can things be left up overnight?

Hey MAPLEWOODSTOCKERS!! The Columbia High School Football players will be in the COUGAR FOOTBALL GAME ZONE for skill demonstrations and fun activities!!

I love that photo with the jersey numbers..... cool.

Pretty sure the Toy Matinee song was being used for a system check by a sound person for one of last year's bands. A cool album - but also a sonic reference. But maybe Mr. T has it!

I can Shazaam that clip but if anyone knows the song title, blah, blah, blah.

"Last Plane Out." I mentioned it earlier. Sorry.

This checklist was just posted on the MWS facebook page:

1) Something to sit on from noon until about 10pm - it should be soft
and comfortable and clean enough so that your neighbors won't wonder
where that funky smell is coming from.

2) Lots of drinks because
it's going to be roughly 87.4 degrees without the music playing. Add 5
degrees on average for the hard rocking bands, and you're up to 92.
Halfway through the Wailers set it will feel like 112 degrees, And don't
even get us started about Sunday''s amazing lineup.
So, lof fluids
and, of course, you can buy lots of drinks from our great food vendors
or you can visit the team in the Beer Garden.

3) Sun screen. Lots of
it. Memorial Park doesn't have a lot of shady spots where the festival
takes place so unless you want to be mistaken for a lobster by 2pm, SPF
40.

4) As of this writing there is essentially no room left for
canopies...and, no generators...respect your fellow human beings. We
want everyone to be able to see the festival without having to peer
around your 16 foot high and 12 foot wide monstrosity because then
they'll have to bring ladders and that's just silly. And generators make
lots of noise and they smell nasty. Would you want to sit in a chair
next to someone wearing earplugs and pieces of tissue paper stuffed up
their noses all day? Didn't think so. So leave the tents and generators
in your backyard and just focus on the clean blankets and the sunscreen.

5) Space! This is not the frontier! Early in the day when people are
getting to Maplewoodstock there is generally ample space for your
blankets and everything is cool. By mid-afternoon a lot of the space is
claimed which is also cool. What is not cool is coming in the morning
and putting out a tarp that measures 80 feet by 100 feet and then
disappearing until the last act is scheduled to go on. Aside from being
uncool, you’re not going to appreciate the roughly 5,000 dirty looks you
get when you show up or the “look at the loser who sits here” that’s
been spray painted on your tarp. Please be respectful of others in terms
of your space requirements. Take what you need but no more. Thanks!

6) Food! Hey, bring food… or better yet, how about sampling ALL of the
delectable treats that our great food vendors will be selling. Very
reasonably priced and VERY tasty. And just think about how many calories
you're going to burn off by dancing for most of the day down by the
stage.

7) If you've been to Maplewoodstock previously you know that
we've got a beautiful Arts and Crafts fair going on around the perimeter
of the festival. Incredible wares from many local artisans. Aside from
the fact that these folks help to sponsor this free festival (thanks!)
the stuff they sell is A+ cool and is well worth your attention.
Seriously.

8) Got Kids? You've come to the right place! Lots of great things for kids to do during the day including rides and games.

9) Peace, Love and Understanding! Hey, this is a FREE festival. The
vibe at Maplewoodstock is always fantastic and if any of you want to
know what makes our community tick, just come out with that blanket and
chill out for the day. All we really ask is that you bring along a
smile, your friendship and the understanding that we all pitch in to
make this happen. So please respect your new neighbors, the volunteers,
the musicians, the vendors and pretty much all of the 5,000 other people
we expect...and, please help us to clean up the area so that it's
spotless each night when we leave. Please be extra careful about tossing
your own trash away and if, by chance, you're sitting next to someone
who didn't get the memo, help us out by picking up whatever they've left
behind. Our goal is to leave the park cleaner than when we arrived.

10) Bring your cameras and cell phones and take pics, tweet, do the
whole social media thing to let people know how awesome you are to be at
Maplewoodstock. Brag if you like. Anyone can go to the beach on July
11th and 12th. Maplewoodstock is much cooler.

11) It's not mandatory
-at all- but if you have some extra cash to spend please consider
buying a Maplewoodstock t-shirt or hat.
Proceeds go to helping us
pay for the festival and will allow us to continue this beautiful thing
for as long as you are interested.
Anyway, that's it for now...we are just 15 hours away from the opening of the festival and it's going to be an awesome weekend.

I just want to thank all the people who work their butts off to put on this great festival. I've been enjoying Maplewoodstock every single year (except one) and I'm so fortunate to live in a community such as this. I can't say enough about the local vibe, great people, talent, food, etc. I look forward to having another amazing weekend in the park. Keep up the great work and thank you for all you do!

Is a lawn chair o.k., as long as it is not under a canopy?

Yes

TL;DR. Guess I'll be showing up with an army tent and no food.

For next year can we have a rule that any tarp/blanket left unoccupied for more than an hour gets folded in half? It is really frustrating looking at the nice shady area covered in empty blankets while those of us actually at the festival had to swelter in the sun.

Digital photos could be taken on the hour and if people complain when they finally show up at 8, they could be shown the evidence.

I understand the desire to have a good spot, but a lot of people missed the point. This is a day long community festival, not an evening concert. Come and hang out with your neighbors and hear some bands you might not know.

I really thought about going home and getting some spray paint . . .

At the music festival in Telluride, the rule is that you can put out chairs/blankets and anyone can sit in them. When you show up, that person must move. It's not hard.

Oooh - I like that idea! What a reasonable solution.
