Longtime WNYC Hosts Leonard Lopate, Jonathan Schwartz Placed On Leave

This following on the revelations regarding John Huckleberry (who I was not even a little bit surprised to discover was a abusive bass whole).

Press Release fromWNYC

Ugggghhh! And Roy f'ing Moore will be a United States Senator.

I can't with this BS. I'm just so annoyed by the inability of some men to be able to keep their hormones in check and hands to themselves.

The Silver Lining: No more Jonathan Schwartz. What a useless windbag.  What an a$$hole. Worst of all? What a terrible DJ.

Good riddance.

It breaks my heart. (Just as an aside: the key to Democrats winning in 2018 - and every election - is turnout. Dems just don't show up in enough numbers to demonstrate their strength. What a shame.)

Hard for Dems to win in Arkansas or Alabama or Mississippi or Texas where they are outnumbered two to one.

Which one is Lopate? Morning or noon?

OMG, I used to listen to Leonard Lopate all the time when I lived in Brooklyn.  I met him in person.  He used to talk about his wife and son all the time.  Ugh. Nooooooooo.  I have not yet read about it.

I agree that Jonathan Schwartz was a bit of a windbag and seemed to be very-much overly in love with his own voice and stories (while listening on Sunday I often thought, "Shut-up already and play some tunes!") No loss for me. But DAMN about Lopate! Have enjoyed MANY well-done fascinating and informative interviews of his while working.

I'm so heartened to see finally the cultural shift in defense of women defending themselves yet I confess am also disheartened to learn of the behavior and thus lose the appreciated work product of so many talented men such as Charlie Rose, Al Franken, Garrison Keillor etc etc etc and yes even Kevin Spacey (who will now deservedly be a pariah).

So all of entertainment is a freewheeling frat-house of ***-grabbing and intimidation (and worse)...  Would like to see the serious offenders in prison as well as the management teams who covered it up all these years.

I'm just not getting why pervy Dems have to resign from office in shame, but pervy Repubs get elected to higher office. WTF?

Sorry, off-topic, I know this is supposed to be about WNYC...

Lopate?!? Say it ain't so.  I like his interviews, I just wish he didn't ask leading questions all the time.

If Brian Lehrer fails I am out of there.

Oh.That's too bad. He was a great interviewer, had fascinating guests, and no more Food Friday??? Say it ain't so!

I am SO with you on that...

Lopate is an anti-vaxxer, so there are some positives to shutting him up.

Is he really? I never picked up on that. Will have to check that out.

As for Lehrer, between the two I'd rather have Lopate. Politically his wishy-washy "bothsider-ism" is both infuriating and destructive.

You can listen to the interview that is the basis of Dave's claim.

ETA-Yes! Lehrer's "bothsider-ism" is infuriating.

Neither have I. Has that been discussed on his shows?

According to today's NY Times Lopate has not been told what the allegations against him are.

I note his age and that of Schwartz. I hope this is not just an excuse for getting rid of some old people to make way for younger ones.

Lopate truly seems to have no idea what he did.   I hope we have a bit more info soon.  They have a pledge drive coming up this month and things like this could kill a local station quickly.

Yeah, I found Specter's web page where he has a short discussion thread about the show.

Lopate is way better than Lehrer.  I hope they clear him.  MSNBC just rehired someone they fired, saying they had realized it was not a fireable incident.

Those interviews were 2009.  I’m pretty sure I’ve heard him comment more recently (the past year or two) that there was no proven link bbetweeen autism and vaccination.

BUT unlike some of you guys I really really like Brian Lehrer...

Lehrer’s show over Lopate’s, hands down.

But nobody tops Terry Gross.

The one problem I have with Lopate is that he tries to show off too much regarding the interview topic. But his cooking shows kick butt.

Lehrer is fine except when he has on right wing hacks like "economist" Stephen Moore and just lets him dissemble, and basically flat-out lie, with hardly any push-back. Don't know if he doesn't prepare enough or thinks his job is not to push back. Either way, it sucks.

Agree with both points.  With some of his questions, he tries to sound like he's asking about details, as if from something he knows, when he's obviously reading what a producer prepared.  And the cooking segments are great, I only hope he wasn't harassing Melissa Clark.

IMO, Brian Lehrer's global knowledge of practically any issue discussed on his show is exemplary. Lehrer is matchless. Terry Gross' one-on-one interviews are brilliant.
